  • Anyone else had tyre threads causing damage to wheel rims?

    Hi Chaps,

I has to run a tube on my rear Conti MK2 today, as the bead looks totally goosed. The top of the rim, where the tyre bead sits, has lots of diagonal scratches, uniformly all the way round, it looks like the thread from the tyre has dug into the rim.

Has anyone else experienced this? and did you bother to sand it down with some very fine grit emery cloth?

    Cheers

I had this on my old Mavic Crossrides from a set of Highrollers. Not seen it since I got some decent Stans rims though.

I just left it. Didn’t see it as doing any harm, I’d have though rubbing it down would be worse for the rim than just leaving it.

I have noticed most of my rims are back to the raw alloy on top of the bead…assumed it was standard wear and tear
