Too make that a bit clearer – contacts and i'cal entries get duplicated on the i.phone i.e – contacts are listed twice and I.cal shows two entries for the same appointment – any ideas what i'm doing wrong – I say 'i'm' as I guess this is a user error – something to do with setting in 'synchronise' or similar?

I'm off to London via Manchester tomorrow (on the train) so I'll leave home early and pop into the Apple Store in the Arndale….

Are you syncing to the same place in more than one way?

In your Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars are any of the account set to sync contacts?
Do you also have sync contacts checked under the Info tab in iTunes?
