   There really are some obnoxious to55ers on this site.

   I'm not sure why a thread entitled "Amy Winehouse is Dead" is seen as such an insult to anything else that's going on in the world. As TJ says, start a thread about "our boys" if it's annoying you so much, rather than moaning that others haven't. The Norway comparison just baffles me further...

   Like or loath her music AW was good at what she did, and has been for the last few years terrorised by the tabloid press. I'm sure this doesn't help when you're trying to get over the troubles she clearly had.

   Echoing that some of the comments here are sad - predictable given the usernames at the top of the posts.

   I saw her live at Glastonbury back when she was on form - it was one of the best sets I've ever had the pleasure to watch - cheered up thousands of people on a wet and muddy day.

   As tm says, Back to Black is a work of genius. It's shit when someone so talented implodes like that - her parents must be bloody gutted today and I hope those around her who could have intervened but instead helped her along the path to self-destruction are taking a long hard look at themselves today.

   What strikes me as the saddest thing to come out of this is the attitude of many people on here, and in general, towards addicts/addiction. It's perhaps not difficult to see why in our culture its accecptable to step over people in the street on our way to work/pub whatever.

   The comparison with what's happened in Norway is bizarre yet could be informative if viewed in the context of how the Norwegians deal with, and view, addiction and substance abuse. I think we as a nation have a lot to learn, if our arrogance will ever permit it.

   And yet so predictable. My first reaction when I heard on the news that Amy Winehouse was dead was, the usual halfwits on STW will be falling over each other as they try to prove just how incapable they are of grown-up comment. I fully anticipated the comments regarding her being worthless, an oxygen thief, talentless, etc. They just can't help themselves.

   Where's the "sanctimonious crap" ? Copy and paste if you can find any. Do you even know what sanctimonious means ? And no, it doesn't mean expressing regret when someone has died.

   She's overrated and over.

   The day after they have died, is always a good time to remind everyone that you didn't like a singer.

   On other news 90 young people have been tragically killed in Norway.

   You forgot to mention the nurse who was charged in connection with the deaths of five patients, or the 35 dead in the Chinese train crash, both also in the news - don't you care about those victims too, you insensitive muppet ?

   People are harping on about a woman who has thrown away chance she was given. And ever "second" chance.
   Despite the help, despite her dad trying his hardest, she has continued.
   This happens to hundreds of people, they seek help, they try to cure there addiction.
   They may not have the love, backup or support she had. But they do it.

   90 youths have been needlessly murdered through no fault of misguidance of their own. Now THAT is a tragedy.
   And that is newsworthy, that warrants our respect and thoughts. Ms Winehouse

   Her music didn't start the 60s revival it was just another part of it.
   I believe the song that really catapulted her into everyone's ears was a heavily produced Zutons number.

   I like some of her songs, but I'm certainly not going to label anything genius!

   As Ernie said how about he other deaths you failed to mention - to say nothing of the deaths on the roads and othere places that don't even make the papers.

   Yes, I think we're all aware of that, but whether we like it or not, she was famous and her death will be discussed a lot more than that of an anonymous addict. Just try and keep an open mind about these things - there are people here with (I'm guessing) a lot more first-hand experience of drug addiction than you or me. I've tried to keep an open mind and their recent posts have certainly made me change my views on certain aspects - I'd say that not so long ago, there was still an eensy teensy bit of me that thought it was all an addict's fault, blah blah blah.

    she made alot of music/concerts in her short lived years....such a shame..i liked her music but the excessive drink etc always catches you out in the end....such a shame ...R.I.P Amy

    Doubtless those who started to know her music from the 'heavily produced Zutons number' won't be aware of her Mercury nomination at the age of 20, Ivor Novello award or influence on fashion. From two albums she had the admiration and attention of those who matter on things musical.

    A sad day for regarding who died, never a huge fan of her music but if you know more about her personal life than her achievements maybe your viewing the wrong media. A troubled addictive personality hopefully at rest.

    A sad waste of life, anyone that has been touched with a family member or friend who has succumbed to any addiction will feel the pain that her family are feeling at this point in time. My heart is with her family at this time.

    that is all I have to say on this and do not wish to read anymore guttural trash on this.

    Whether you liked her music or not , she was a hugely talented singer but was flawed in her personality.

    I didn't like her music, it was aweful. And her voice grated on me like nails on a blackboard. Great shame for her family though.

    go on then, i'll pick that gauntlet up. would you like to back up how you quantify her musical output ? or is it just your laymans' opinion based on your own taste and prejudice ? the latter is fine of course. problem is, it limits you to making judgements on whether you like it or not, rather than placing it somewhere on a scale of good to bad. if you want to do that, then you need to be judging it on criteria such as ability, originality, longevity, its influence on others. i'm sure there are more.

    I used to like her music but I increasingly lost interest in her as an artist as her life spiralled towards a bottomless pit of drug addiction probably brought about by the fact that she was a vulnerable person. Regardless of the persona she portrayed to the tabloids, who hounded her, probably further adding to her demise, she did not deserve to die whether she intended to or if it was something else.

    I just think she deserves a bit more respect than some poeple are showing on here and on facebook etc.
    put yourself in her family's shoes you sad, ignorant people.
