Facilities are a bit basic here at MTG Towers. I'm not on mains water and have to carry my water in in 25 litre containers.
During the winter I do as much cooking as possible on the log burner.
After boiling the potatoes for dinner, I save the hot water and use it for washing up after I've eaten.
Seems like common sense to me, MuddyPuddle thinks I should boil fresh water to wash up.
Am I being unreasonable ?

Depends. If you've cut the spuds, then there'll be a lot of starch in the water, so you'll end up with crusty plates.
SOP for washing up on offshore yacht races is to use seawater, by the way - never did me or the rest of the crews any harm.

I usually fill the saucepan to boil it with the spuds in, then add another saucepan full of cold water to the washing up bowl to get the temperature right, so the starch is pretty well diluted by then. I don't notice it anyway.

get one of these;
they're 40 litres and the extra 15 litres will allow you to wash up with clean water.

I think you should wash up whatever way you want, with whatever fluid you choose. Mains water or not, are you not an Englishman and is it not your castle?

Anyway, men always wash up in water that's luke warm. Imo. it should be so hot that you have to wear marigolds.

I know what you mean, as I use mine for washing the bikes, however they are not the same ones used for the washing up, oh hang on, I have different marigolds for cleaning the loo too.Lol @ Samuri.

You've not met me... Mrs. z1ppy complains that scalding hot water is not necessary to clean the washing up when you using an anti-baterial washing up liquid.. I disagree but as the new kitchen has a dishwash, it doesn't matter anymore
