    Hi guys….

Am going to Afan for the first time in a couple of weeks for the first time…
Have got High Roller 2.1’s……are they gonna be ok?

    any advice would be appreciated

I’ve never been to afan but I wouldn’t change tyres just to go

(unless I normally used ice-spikes or something)

high rollers are great (imagine 2.1s are narrow – the 2.35 aren’t big, but you’ll be fine*)

    *is my guess

Whatever’s on the bike when you put it in the car is the answer to your question.

However – if it’s wet you’ll be needing spare brake pads

Preferably some with little knobbly bits on…

    High Rollers will be perfect.

Your High Rollers will be fine.
2.3 would be slightly better for grip / less chance of punctures but 2.1″ are fine.
Go ride – you’ll enjoy it

Do you want me to give your mam a call so she knows what to dress you in as well??

2.1s will be a little bit sketchy on the front end on the Wall or Penhydd if it’s really wet and you’re pinning it.

    Otherwise fine.

    LOL

I would go for the HR 2.35 personally, I find the 2.1 a bit sketchy when pushing it

Well somebodys not bedding their pads in properly …

2.1″ High Roller XCs will be fine. If they slide around a bit on rock, drop the pressure a little

my winter bike currently has superstar organic pads in the back, but then again people told me that the way i bed my pads in would glaze them. And that superstar pads would dissolve/fall off in the peaks 🙂

Can the Mods arrange for a “Sticky” saying that it doesn’t matter what tyres you use at trail centres? This question must come up twice a day!

Oh, and Any2Wheels – you will love Afan – it’s great fun.

sorry jfeb…..you must spend too much time on here…..and anyway you dont have to open a thread if it mentions tyres do you?
better to have a lot of traffic through here rather than none at all isnt it?

I defintely spend too much time here. Its a fair cop 🙂

But seriously it doesn’t matter what tyres you use at a trail centre. Almost by definition a trail centre is “all-weather” with hardcore or rock-based trails. You won’t find lots of mud so any tyre will do fine.

A sticky stating this will a) save new joiners to the forum waiting for responses to their question and b) save everyone else writing the same old stuff.

But, like I said, have fun at Afan. It is a great place.

I wish someone would hack the forum again to rid us of these threads.

But for what it’s worth, I find 2.5 60a Wet Screams to be best. Afan is quite sloppy so you’ll want to pump them up to about 40 to cut through the squelchy stuff on top.

Sorry, should have said, 40psi. Running tyre pressures in bar at Afan is a big no-no – you’ll be all over the place for traction in any units other than psi. Something to do with the mud they on top of the trails apparently.
