Back in April I managed to rupture my a/c shoulder ligaments and was left with a droopy right shoulder, which hasn’t lifted back into place since. My GP has referred me to a sports injury specialist who’s told me that it’s a Grade 3 and has around 80% of mobility. I can’t swim very far now, nor can I work the upper body weights without having problems, so he offered me a “modified Weaver Dunn” operation which has a 75% chance of fixing it.

Has anyone here had this done? If so, can you tell me about your experiences, good and bad please?

I had the same injury about 18 months ago (skiing). Put up with it for a year, but then decided to get something done. Got my GP to refer me to a surgeon in wrightington (on NHS) who performed a “lars ligament repair”.

That was 5 months ago, shoulder is much stronger now, and still improving. For instance, before the op I was limited to doing 3 press ups due to pain. Still not back to where I would like to be, but can now do 8 before pain stops me carrying on.

Lots of information here/and generally on this site LINK

Hope this helps. Any questions feel free to email me: martyn(at)mrh86(dot)co(dot)uk

I had the same injury repaired with a variation on the Weaver Dunn method around 13 years ago. It took around 6 months to recover fully from the surgery, but my shoulder has been absolutely fine ever since – full strength and mobility.

Important to find out what the worst outcome and worst likely outcome is… It’s one thing to go for a 75% chance if the 25% isn’t too bad, but some ligament ops are a bit all or nothing.
