    would the time limit between each downhill timed section have been long enough to walk up the steep uphill sections.

    and it is a serious question.

    walking? – i would guess most stages: yes, some no.

    (some are tighter than others)

    i have found that trundling along very, very, slowly is quick enough, and still leaves me enough spare time for a bit of a faff.

    In the first round the entire course length was about 20km. Nothing was unrideable as you could easily sit it in the granny and spin away to get over the steeper bits – but I suppose you could walk them if you really wanted. Some of the sections didn’t warrant the use of a large heavy bike though as they were quite pedally, if that’s what you are angling at? One guy did ride on a full DH bike and did quite well, but was obviously pretty fit too.
