I went recently. 5hr drive up on a Friday evening to here:
Stayed in a wigwam there.
Up early on Saturday & drove to Kirroughtree - about 45mins.
Sunday morning, up & out early, Dalbeattie is 300m down the road so we did that and then 5hr drive back home.
A good weekend's riding in all.

do you mean non trailcentre stuff ie i nto the hills?If so there are plenty of choices either in the Borders or D&G.
For D&G OS78 is what you need, just follow the black dotted lines(some not on the map tho)For stuff around Inners/GT take a map into the shops at Inners and ask for details. Or someone on here could point you in the right direction(usually do)

They're more out of the way but Drumlanrig and Kirroughtree are a bit less "bike park" than Glentress. Love Glentress myself but it's not so much of an XC route and very much a trail centre route if you see what I mean. Obviously KT and Drum are manmade, but they have a more XC feel.
If you want to stay more central, Glentress black is an overlooked gem, it's nicely deserted and slightly worn out and generally feels like the best local loop in the world rather than a black trailcentre loop. Quite long for the reward but still ace.

You can do Glentress Black and Inners in a day assuming you're reasonably fit. You can ride between them. You can then head off somewhere else the next day.

Mabie/ drunlanrig/ dalbeatie/ Ae are all very close together? Those are the ones I did the other week.
