It’ll be a 6mm or 8mm from memory, 12 or 13 nut on the other side

    I’m guessing its 8mm then, ta 🙂

Bregante, I hope you weren’t waiting outside Halfords all night in a sting operation 8)

You haven’t a set of allen keys – and you’ve been MTBing for how long?

Oh, I forget, you never normally keep a bike long enough to actually need any tools… 🙄

You’d carry round allen keys THAT big?

Are you removing this front triangle from a bike in the street?

The owner will not be happy when he/she comes back to find it missing.

Surely you have more than a park multi tool for your bike maintenance.

No, never needed those fancy sets. My tools consist of a cutter, pliers, claw hammer, rubber hammer, threaded dowling rod (for headset fit), overly-large adjustable spanner and a couple of other bits and bobs. Nothing professional or even an apron..

I think you forgot to mention the bolt croppers. Definitely.

I’m cringing at the use of an adjustable spanner.

Great for fitting headsets, great for rounding the edges of things 😉

    Hora,

Do your self a favour when you go in to halfords, pick one of THESE up rather than just a 8mm Allen Key. It will give you tools not only to strip the bike but sockets to replace bearings and service your forks.

If you bought the small sized one yes, otherwise no.

I think you are best off trying to undo the nut on the non-drive side with a spanner while holding the other side with an allen key.

Rusty. Its probably a good idea. £100 is a lot but if it lasts.

It comes with a lifetime guarantee on the non moveable parts so if you break a spanner or socket then you just take it into the shop with the receipt and they give you a new one.
I know of someone using a socket to remove a broken locking wheel nut – they smacked the socket onto the wheel nut with a lump hammer and then removed the nut. Took the socket back to Halfords and no questions asked got a replacement.

You do not need that set. The only sockets you need are a 24mm shallow drive and, if you have dual air forks, a 10mm deep drive.

And a pair of circlip pliers.
