[#3970562]

Having seen this exact frame/fork and a Mavic Crossmax SX wheelset for sale on Pinkbike to which has now been taken off as it was sold.

This chap named and shamed above has built it into a complete bike adding bits and bobs and selling 3rd hand now at £3k.

The Intense frame/36 rlc's and Crossmax SX's were bought 2nd hand for £1550 or nearest offer so presuming he got it for less, makes this even worse than it already is.

It's just not cricket and is against classifieds rules on here atleast and shouldn't be allowed full stop as it's easy money for those who do not support the sport of biking/cycling and just pick up next to new bargains at other actual rider's expense then decide to pounce on the for sale topics and make a quick buck.

BOILS MY PISS!

Whilst selling my 2 bikes recently, he contacted me about one "Very interested, blah, blah" He then failed to respond to emails. He was doing the same thing on about 4 bikes at the same time - a complete waste of my time. I wouldn't buy off him.

Complete chancer then and for those who would like to send a wee profanity riddled e-mail to him then you can do so at this scamming address. charliefjking@yahoo.com

I have had this happen to me by a retrobike forum member who made loads of profit by buying from myself, clearly making sure he had all the extra tit bits to then sell on afterwards.

He then e-mails me to complain that the xtr crankset were 165mm's, which were on a jumpbike to then imply that he could not sell 165mm's as easily as 175mm's.

His name is HarryBurgundy aka Carl Thomas from Cardiff way who has I apparently works, ahem and has a wine retailer or distributor which I would of thought is already successful enough.

Greed is the name of the game and it's clearly wrong, and yes I would like to think fairness is the name of the game when dealing with people who share the same passion but clearly this is not the case.

SHAME ON YOU $#1$T£R$!

just make a note to yourself never to buy off him.
and only buy off folk who use the general forums too, although 1 well know sheffield based trader/scammer/tosspot, now posts on the forum too rather than just on the classifieds.

True Ton, although I'm a bit miffed why you wasted my time with that H'core Conti tyre that you wanted 😛

Really, why didn't you follow through. 😆

There all over ebay for a long time now, whilst chancing their luck on these very forums, yet when I try to sell a bloomin load of new kit for under £30 an item, no one wants to know even though I'm the quickest in the west when it comes to posting. 🙄

Ton, I gave the powers at be the HEADSUP about said person and they did nothing about him. His profile has a possibly false name as well, it certainly does not match his email address.

I'd say this is a good general rule to apply these days. Usually (though not always) means it's more realistically priced (and described) to sell also. Looking at someone's forum history is a little like ebay feedback in my book, if they've only ever sold stuff and never contributed, it's like having a zero feedback score.

aye, i myself got a headsup recently when I saw a rear mech I neeeded at a good price, sent email then when I saw who it was from run a mile.

Wasn't sure what to do about it, glad it has been raised again.

then noticed that they had been posting on threads also, even starting some, cynically I imagine to get past our "forum community" general guidance.

****.

I think we should have a specific thread naming bad sellers (inc paypal details/bank details, email address and ant other information) so we can do a quick search on their name (using the search bar) and see if there genuine.

Thats a great suggestion, i was stung on Pinkbike and such a facility would be to the benefit of everybody.

As a rule i never buy from a new member, always check previous posts etc but you just never know. I always pay by Paypal as its got me out of a hole on more than one occasion.

If you sell stuff to strangers below market value then this is bound to happen.

This ^^ .

Although in this forum I do it as much as anyone . But some people don't care about the moral aspect , buy a bargain and try to make a profit , natural action for many people .

The Mods seem to show SCANT regard to the "outing" of regular traders on the classifieds.

I can't understand what you've written, but I'm not sure I get the issue with people buying bikes/frames/components and building up/selling on for a profit?

Classified Rules

What’s the classifieds forum for?

The classified forum is free for all private sales. It’s there primarily to provide and opportunity for you to sell those unwanted bits and pieces that you have no need for that someone else may well be desperate to get hold of.

Lets try and define what we mean by ‘private’.

The ‘spirit’ of our forum is one where users can turn their old, surplus or unwanted kit into extra cash to enable them to buy new bits to help them get out and continue riding. The Classified Forum is not a place where users can trade parts bought elsewhere and then sold at a profit. If we suspect that a user is exploiting our forum to earn additional income or solely for the purposes of making a profit then we are very likely to consider that as ‘Trade’ activity and we’ll ask you to stop. We will look at each instance reported to us or spotted by us on a case by case basis and then we will act at our discretion.

Couldn't really be any clearer.

Why do folk sell underpriced? Do you see stw as a big family/community?

Sorry, but I see it as naive. Are people just upset cos they've sold at a **** price and someone's making the money they lost?

Jeez, this isn't some commune, regardless of rules, provide a market and people are going to buy and sell for profit. Get over it.

Simple. I want to sell a frame, I take a low price to get rid of it quickly and move on, I don't want to hang around listing it for ages waiting for a max price and quibbling over a tenner. Fair play to the man who is, buys my frame and sells it for a profit.

I'm not bothered really, its frustrating if somebody is happy to give a decent price to a fellow enthusiast, and its frustrating if every decent deal is snapped up immediately and goes on eBay within a week. At the same time I have sold stuff which I knew would end up on eBay, because I wanted cash for the job lot.

Its funny when you get the whole story about "this is just what I need to finish my build, etc, etc..."

+1 cynic-al if some one sells at a daft price is that not thier loss,
but also the forum should not be for traders !
I can't help swapping and changing so am often buying and selling even though I've only one bike.Even if you sell for a fair price the majority seem to want it for even less ! 🙂

Personally I don't care where my old stuff ends up, I mainly sell it as I can't stand throwing away stuff that's not broken. If someone wants to build up a bike and try and make a profit, good for them - if someone is happy to buy it, where is the issue?

well it is against the forum rules and in most on line market places traders have to identify themselves as such.
I am not sure anyone is objecting to "trading" just the fact it is not open trading and should not be allowed on here.

i have sold and bought stuff from "fennerhorn" i used to pick stuff up from his house in brighton.

i never had a problem with him. but he did seem very aware. (never let me in his house to wait in his hallway whilst he got the parts i bought. (i waited in the rain for 5 minuets whilst he removed a BB from a bike he was selling me)

I'm with Al, I don't care how people trade, I just want access to parts.

I have to say I have no moral problem with folk trading SH parts - it's not like it's likely to give anyone Ferrari owning earnings.

but if it's against the rules, fair enough.

It does sound a bit like sour grapes !
If you sell something then hopefully your happy with the price you got!
If someone then gets a better price for that object surely that's got nothing to do with anybody else.
I do agree with the idea that this place is a community that looks after its own and as people have
Said that is quite easily policed from within by searching for post etc but to complain about
People that have paid and collected stuff to then maybe sell them on is just tough luck to whoever sold them cheaply in the first place IMO.

Another plus whatever it is for yet another sour grapes post/whining/moaning/bitching about people selling stuff for more than they paid for it from onceinalifetime.

I presume your self same anti profit approach to buying + selling/dealing applies to property, cars, antiques, food, etc, etc. Somehow I don't think it does.

Not on this forum it isn't. Mark and Co make the rules and traders are supposed to identify themselves and pay for the privilege of using the classifieds to trade.

cant see a problem with buying for cheap money and then selling on - its down to the seller what price they put on their items.
I try to sell my stuff at 'ebay value', less the ebay fees - that way both the buyer and seller get a fair deal.
as for the OP, 3k for a 2nd bike seems to be pushing it!

Trading outside STW classifieds is covered by law also. You have rights to consumer protection when dealing with a commercial entity, these scammers are trying to avoid their responsibilities as they are a commercial undertaking.
