Shiny newness from Cannondale – Redesigned SuperX and CAADX models

We just received word, hot off the press release, er press, of Cannondale’s new ‘cross range, nicely timed for those with an eye on the forthcoming ‘cross season in a few months.

The range is based around the aluminium CAADX frame, and carbon SuperX frame. Both have been completely redesigned. Apparently, this is because ‘modern cyclocross courses are becoming more challenging and races are becoming faster and more aggressive’, according Cannondale senior product manager, David Devine. In essence, this has lead to some geometry changes neatly summed up as a bit slacker, or:
“Both SuperX and CAADX feature Cannondale’s new OutFront Steering Geometry for greater stability. This proprietary technology combines a slack head angle with a custom 55mm fork offset, giving the rider exceptional stability, while still remaining incredibly agile. The slack head angle allows the rider to attack technical courses, while the tight “trail” measurement keeps handling quick and nimble.”

Additionally, the frames have had clearances increased – providing mud clearance. Other tweaks include shortened chain stays, which is no mean feat while also increasing clearance. Clever carbon moulding has allowed the SuperX to have clearance for up to 40c tyres while maintaining the 422mm stays of he CAADX.
Both bikes have ‘SPEED SAVE’ micro-suspension built into the seat stays and forks for bump absorption over rough ground.
Finally, as this is Cannondale, there is lots of componentry integration, with cranks, forks, seatpost and frame all developed together.

The SuperX will be available in four men’s models and one women’s model and CAADX will be available in five men’s models and one women’s model, covering all price points.
