Christmas may be a time of excess food for those of us who live in the real world. For the Cross racing superstars, it’s an exceptionally busy time of year, with Christmas Week in Belgium being stacked with high level races. CAPCP this week brings you action from the Zolder World Cup and the Superprestige race from Diegem.
UCI World Cup: Zolder
Lars van der Haar has had a string of mediocre performances in November and December, but his form was getting better and better. He looked very determined, just minutes before his race started and an hour later, he won his second World Cup race of the season.
Mathieu van der Poel’s bike and the spoils of his second place. Though his main opponent has been Wout Van Aert for the most of the season, it was Laurens Sweeck today, who got the better of both van der Poel and Van Aert.
Behind van der Haar and Kevin Pauwels, there was a cutthroat battle for third between Corne van Kessel (right), Philipp Walsleben (left) and Julien Taramarcaz. Van Kessel was the fastest and thus repeated his Valkenburg podium finish.
Giving high fives is starting to become a thing for Katerina Nash. After celebrating her victory such way in Namur a week ago, today she was in a celebratory mood again, just before finishing third.
While he wasn’t the winner of the bike race, Sven Nys was clearly the winner of the attention race. Photographers and journalists swarmed Nys, who could only stand for minutes silently after finishing 16th.
