Just like all other British riders, Ian Field was almost pushed ahead during the race by the incredible cheering. After the race, he was invited to the podium, as the current British Champion and it took him almost a minute to find the words to talk. It was a profoundly poignant moment for him and for us, spectators, too.

Francis Mourey is not getting any younger. However, he is one of those older riders, who get better and better when the going gets tough. He is getting into better and better form, just in time for the soon-to-be-here, fiendishly hard Christmas week.

Not a great day for Sven Nys, who missed the podium but he still leads the overall Bpost Trofee ranking by almost two minutes.

They young Wout Van Aert showed today that he can win on flat and fast courses.
