Well I assume it'll fit but will it work OK? I've been told that SRAM chains are marginally narrower.
Ta for any help.
I've used both in Shimano chains so they can't be that different.
SRAM ones are better though.
I'm using SRAm 9sp links in all my MTBs (9 speed XTR chains) and also on my road bikes (9sp XTR chain and also a 105 10sp chain) THe 9sp link actually seems to fit the road bike better than the 10 speed one!
Tiz true, a differance in width is the case.
The packet I used to have did KMC & Shimano, no mention of Sram.....
Fine.
In case it was difficult to detect from my previous post - you will not die in a horrendous fireball.
It will be fine.
I have used plenty of SRAM chains with KMC links.
I always use KMC links since the 10-spd SRAM ones proclaim themselves not re-usable.
However I have since stopped using SRAM chains, as KMC chains are much more betterer.
Cheers. A mate's 10sp shimano chain broke last night and my 10sp SRAM link wouldn't fit (too narrow).. Got me thinking about compatibility between brands as I also have some KMC links and wondered if they'd fit the SRAM chain on my bike if needed.
I've been using a 9 speed Powerlink in a 10 speed SRAM chain without any problems, but have just ordered a KMC Link to be on the safe side.
Can the KMC link be fitted/taken off by hand easily like the 8/9speed sram links or do you need to use a pliers or fitting tool?

Not true, they are just as reusable as any other link. Both of mine have been removed dozens of times for cleaning. They click back together each time as if they were new

as long as the link is relatively clean it should come off using your hands, but you can buy a tool too.
KMC can be reused.

This isn't true! Fit the link, then put some force on pedals and it snaps closed. Job done. I also thought it didn't fit until someone set me straight. The chain has done 100s of miles since, shifting and running smooth as you like.
