Why isn't my frame selling ???(Old 26" frame query!)

So are you saying it’s really only worth half of what I am asking for it?
Who said that?
I start to get cynical about these threads as they develop and reach a point where it starts to run into classifieds promotion. There’s plenty of advice on this thread to ponder on
rentonFree MemberJust going by what trail rat said that is all.
I understand what you are saying about classifieds promotions but this isnt one of them.

Turner say it’s good for people from 6 foot to 6 foot 4POSTED 11 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST
No they don’t . This is from their 2010 website ,giving 2010 geometries.
http://web.archive.org/web/20100328051339/http://www.turnerbikes.com/010/010spot.htmlI’mnot saying it’s worth half of what you are asking.I said I would have offered you about half of what you were asking before the respray.
Now though…
It can easily be worth less than a run of the mill spesh. Most people, keen cyclists or beginners, have heard of Specialised. Not so many have heard of Turner.
If you want rid, stick it on Ebay. There are many opinions on here, but the only ones that really matter are those of people willing to stick their hand in their pocket for a big frame for proper sized wheels. The rest are largely (scuse me) irrelevant.rentonFree MemberMmmm that is a different geometry table to the one I had?
I got the xl as the large one I had was to small and I’m 6foot1
darrenspinkFree MemberOld ebay listing for something similar. Reckon you would be able to sell about the same price. Get it on ebay as a buy it now (for what you would like) but allow people to make offers.

A more “normal” size, and even that only attracted one bid.
NorthwindFull MemberThe pics in your ad aren’t the most flattering tbh, the front-on pic makes it look pretty gawky and steep, it’s all headtube. Needs better pics, from nicer angles.
A link to a geometry table and reviews if poss are always nice imo. The thing about outsizes is that sure, there’s less people who want them but there’s also less going around, the height distribution of used bikes should be pretty much correct so I don’t think there’s any reason to assume they’re worth less- it just might take longer to find the right buyer, who no doubt is right now saying “WTF, where are all the used XL frames?”
rOcKeTdOgFull Membermost guys looking for an XL frame have been tricked into believing they should be on a 29er.
🙄
mindmap3Free MemberI think it looks fab in the green. Doesn’t look like a bad price either, I guess the size may put some off.
Hora – is fashion biking your new phrase? What the hell does that me anyway? Don’t you have an ‘on trend’ narrow wide ring?
Edric64Free MemberWhere is this bike listed ?~ im 6ft 4 and dont see what difference the wheel size makes to enjoying riding
vincienupFree MemberKawasaki Green isn’t a world away from the Green that Cotic just stopped selling everything in and I love it on mine.
I’m guessing like above, you’re advertising in the wrong place.
Personally I’d be put off by a respray unless it was a cheap bike. Any serious customisation tanks resale price. No one seriously expects a riced up Corsa to be worth the same as a mint original spec model of same year, even. As soon as you customise you limit potential resale to people on the same page as you.
I know I bought a nice if cosmetically tatty three year old French FS frame for £250 last year (not on here), but Turner’s a niche brand.
Don’t think XL makes it un sellable but it will restrict you to big people.
Picture wise, if the pictures are poor, from a ride possibly years ago propped against a tree etc, copied from a magazine or seller tries to excuse them I tend to ignore the item unless it’s very cheap and I want to take a risk on it.
Basically, advertise elsewhere with better pictures and prepare for a long wait, or drop massively for quick sale is about the size of it. If you want to sell a quality product for a decent price, do it properly. If you have a mate who is good with a camera, maybe ask for help or advice.
All that said, a mate of mine sold a POS Big Hit in a terrible respray, not even correctly assembled for £400 and got his hand bitten off. Maybe look at Facebook mountain bike selling pages? Not naming names cos of forum rules…
mattbeeFull MemberMy ’05 5 Spot frame, with a spare set of linkage plates & shock, headset, new bushes in a size L went for £300 so yeah, you may be asking a bit much money.
People just don’t seem to want 26″ frames & it’s a bit like the car market, either really cheap old stuff or fairly pricey newish stuff sells easily but the middle ground is hard.horaFree MemberFashion biking- the latest must have fashion on the trail.
Banshee/transition (carbon Santa Cruz now last year) is cool/the product to be seen on.
The latest wheelsize development. Seen by your mates to have the latest cool kit.

‘I must put that 3k bike on a Credit card to put on thr back of my 2002 MK4 Golf, yes I live in a rented property but my priorities are right’.
😀
TurnerGuyFree MemberIt is caught by that 2010 CRC dump sale on the Turners, combined with the steeper head-angle of the pre-2011 5-spots, combined with the ability of some of the 2009 ones to crack.
My 09 medium flux would be worth nothing (apart from the $600 trade-in), but in reality the suspension is super-robust with the bushings and zerks, and also performs fantastically with its pushed shock, needle bearing shock mounts, and push bushings.
So of all the 2nd hand frames, I would have thought the dw-link turners should hold their value better than virtually anything else, but that isn’t the case.
A large 2011+ 5-spot framer on ebay would still get a good price, the mediums not so much. Same with the medium Burners that are on ebay now – if you are 5ft 8 then the pickings are rich…
TurnerGuyFree MemberI must put that 3k bike on a Credit card to put on thr back of my 2002 MK4 Golf, yes I live in a rented property but my priorities are right
well the bike versus car priority is certainly right, apart from mk4 golfs being pretty ropey…
horaFree MemberSoooo despite the roasting that I got from turner fans at the time…. I was right. The 2011 was a bloody better frame due to the subtle angle changes alround.
rentonFree MemberMattbe. My frame is five years newer than yours pal and has also just had new bushes and journals throughout.
mildredFull MemberAny respray de-values.
From personal experience this is true – a lot of people think you’re trying to hide something – usually a totally ragged frame etc. it’s probably not the case, but that’s what folk think. Couple this with some frankly silly discounting by some online businesses; a lot of people would rather spend a couple of hundred extra on a brand new discounted 26″ Nukeproof mega than buy a resprayed Turner.
neiloxfordFree MemberI sold my 2009 DW 5 spot for £200 after fees and postage without a shock as a guide to price.
horaFree MemberMy old 5spots for sale at thesame price that I sold it for 3yrs ago.

I’ve had my Banshee long before the threads started popping up on here and I paid for it outright thanks as a treat to myself for a secondment to a clients office in London for which I got so e extra cash. It’s a bloody good bike too, but it’s still running on 26inch wheels.
Only mag I buy is Dirt which last time I checked wasn’t owned by Haymarket.
Don’t drive a golf either….the mark IV was hateful, I’d rather walk. Do to rent either.
STW chip on the shoulder fail!
suburbanreubenFree MemberMy old 5spots for sale at thesame price that I sold it for 3yrs ago.
Where?
JeffusFree Member2012 Turner Burner medium in Raw with Kashima shock sold for £470 on ebay a couple of weeks ago, looked to be in very good nic wish I’d had the money to bid.
horaFree MemberYou buy dirt? Thats a fashion/lifestyle mag 2013+
If you buy post 2013 you do it for the slimmed down/high photo and ad content. True?
If youve read it for years you’d see the decline.
Chip? Bet your riding kit is bright/multicoloured.
pictonroadFull MemberMy opinion counts for nothing as I’m not looking to buy your frame, but, I did recently buy an ibis mojo (26″ 1 1/8th) secondhand. I think it’s the head tube, 1 1/8th is just a ticking clock in the buyers eyes. I’d pay £350-£375 for it.
There’s a lot of quality high end 26″ stuff on the 2nd market at the moment, market forces drives the prices down.
SuggseyFree MemberI actually looked at your frame in the classifieds but the fact that it had been re sprayed and cost put me off! If it had been in the £350-£400 range it may have tempted me more!
batman11Free MemberI recon like myself it’s the size first is the issue limited market, second older version then all the other odds and sods come into play, and for some strange reason turners do seem to be one of those brands that have poor resale value compared to say Santa Cruz. Personally I don’t think it’s over priced but I’m not the market as personally I’d want the newer one with slacker head angle and tapered head stock like yourself 😀
crashtestmonkeyFree MemberI did recently buy an ibis mojo (26″ 1 1/8th) secondhand. I think it’s the head tube, 1 1/8th is just a ticking clock in the buyers eyes.
Ibis (well 2Pure) themselves struggled to shift them, they had new-old-stock Mojo SL frames (1 1/8th steerer, 135mm rear, designed for 26″) on clearance for £900 and it took 6 months to sell them all. As others have said the CRC clearance (werent they 800 quid?), re-spray, size and obsolete standards all stand against you.
Better pics, including pics of it pre-respray and be explicit that it wasn’t to cover it looking battered, and ebay with a BIN-or-best-offer, then you get to choose what you let it go for.
gnusmasFull MemberSeen your post a few times, always wanted a 5 spot. If i had the money i would have made you an offer but alas no funds at the moment so sorry cannot lighten your load.
I am happy with 26″ wheels, 135mm rear end and a 1 1/8″ steerer.
Good luck with the sale though, but if you need anyone to look after it for a while give me a shout 😀

I’ve bought Dirt since day one and have a rolling sub. And yes I do see the decline, especially since Jonesy became deputy ed. The rot started a long time before 2013. But hey it’s something to read on the throne.
I have some coloured clothing and some black stuff. The black stuff is great in the winter because it doesn’t stain but the lighter stuff is nice in the summer.
Sorry to go off topic, but if don’t get this whole fashion thing. You ride an Orange FFS, which for some reason are revered on this website (and in the mag). You run modern forks, a single ring if I’m not mistaken and a narrow wide one at that. Bet you run some on trend wide bars too with a short stem.
Hardly a niche or retro none modern bike.
crashtestmonkeyFree MemberYou ride an Orange FFS, which for some reason are revered on this website
equal parts revered and derided on here, TBF.
tomasoFree MemberI bought a nice frame off Renton a few years back. I think it was about £400 for 2010 Stumpjumper and it was mint, well until I scratched and dented it.
The other side of the coin regarding “its only worth what someone will pay for it” is “its only worth selling for what you will part with it for”. You need to fancy a change enough to drop the price a bit so it will sell. If not enjoy a very nice hand crafted frame with a solid warranty.EuroFree MemberRenton, your bike is nicely spruced up and ready to ride. The price seems fair but the market is a little hormonal and your pics aren’t particularly inspiring or flattering.
So, here’s the plan.
Take the bike and your camera for a ride up a mountain. Stop at a few scenic spots on the way up and take some trailside images of the bike. Look up a few bike ads/mags to get an idea of flattering angles. Bring a soft cloth to wipe the dust off the frame from he dusty, fast and dry and dusty trails. On the way down, do the same but be sure to slam the seat for added menace and Grrr.
The bi-fold objectives of the plan will be completed at the end of the ride. You will note you now have some great images of your bike doing what it can do in it’s natural environment, which will prove to be a fantastic selling aid. You will also realise just how bloody great your bike is and continue to enjoy the fruits of your labour for a little* while to come. 😀
*When you do come to sell it, it will be worth less and it might not shift any quicker, but you’ll have some nice images (and memories) of your time on it and you probably wont mind getting less for it.

🙄🙄 yourself, to you too! As well.
rOcKeTdOgFull MemberEuro, 29er berating is so 2012, it’s angst against 27.5 now, time to get with the programme
mikewsmithFree MemberShort of the large size, funny colour, non tapered head tube and 26″ wheels I can’t see why it wouldn’t sell. But those are 4 big points.
I practically gave away an 09 Heckler frame and fork a few months ago, I was never going to rebuild it and the hassle of listing & selling it was too much.
to Hora’s point about fashionable bikes and trends look at the 4 points above. Would you buy a non tapered frame these days? I certainly wouldn’t.
