When days turn to weeks, and into months…
    A “little” crash caused this…

And it needed surgery a couple of weeks later so turned into this…

Looks like I’ll need more surgery over the next few months and won’t be properly riding again ’til at least next spring! Stupid nerves…

So who else is broken and not riding at the moment? and how are you staving off the boredom?

I was hoping the Wii or Playstation would keep me amused but thats difficult when one of your hands doesn’t work!

I always maintain I’d keep training on the turbo if I hurt an arm, but I’m not sure in reality how long I could stand that!

Riding at the moment with a cracked rib, but nothing like what you’re going through!

    Get well soon! 🙂

I’d planned to, managed it a couple fo times but it seems even more dull now, planning to get back on the turbo when it gets nearer to knowing I can ride again (have done a couple of 1 handed miles on the singlespeed but that doesn’t count…)

    What did you do?

Was at the beginning of a race..a couple of people went down right in front of me and I crashed into them – impaled by someone’s brake lever. Time for panic and an ambulance ride! They thought I’d broken it to start with, but no…”just” nerve damage – so now my hand/wrist don’t work – it does warrant lots of real painkillers though 😛

Was 9 weeks ago when I crashed, 7 stitches and sent home form A&E so was expecting to be riding again pretty quickly…

I’ve just put all me bikes on Classifieds and ordered a fishing rod.

My parents think now is a good time to give up cycling forever! Not sure I need to have quite so many bikes sitting in the garage, but I know if I sell 1, that’ll be the one that I want to ride the most when I start riding again! 😛

don’t google fishing injuries for images..

Why, oh why would you put that idea in my head?

Jeez I thought I had bad luck!

I’m broken at the moment, second collar bone in 3 months 🙁 Learned my lesson though, collar bones take ages to heal.

Heal up quick and hope things are ok long term.

    sorry.. 😳

It was BA.nanas idea of selling the bikes and buying a fishing rod.. I wanted to see what the danger aspect would be..
I did warn you not to google..

    Frick, that’s impressive!

Hope you heal up soon. 🙂

I’m in a cast after a wrist dislocation, but have been riding anyway for the last few weeks. Cast has been on since July 24th and I’m due to have an op on the 23rd September to get the cast off and metalwork out. Hopefully then it’ll just be a load of physio, but I suspect it’ll be a few months until I can ride flat out again.

ooya! that looks pretty nasty. get well soon.
broken collar bone here. the ends were pretty spread but they gave me a couple of weeks to sort myself out and second set of xrays showed good alignment, fortunately, so i dodged the surgery bullet 🙂
has been remarkably pain free ( i did the other side before which was an absolute bitch ), and at 5.5 weeks i’m able to raise my arm up straight, so it’s been a good recovery and i’ve been very lucky. if the component that failed had done so about 10mins later, i’d have been doing jumps at about 30mph, rather than rolling down a slope onto a fire road, so it could have been significantly worse for me in many, many ways.
hope to be pedalling around on flatish stuff next week and maybe start back on the easy stuff in a couple of weeks.

I was off 4 months with a broken leg mate, don’t worry it flies by.

In that pic you can see how much muscle I lost. It was tight at first.
Non weight bearing due to the spiral fracture so was house bound too.

You will soon be back out riding.

Ha Jamie it’s a new healing technique. Velcro yourself to the wall to keep blood flowing.

Can’t see the images above for some reason. However, am currently recovering from Bankart shoulder repair surgery, I dislocated my shoulder at Cannock (twice in 1hr!) hurts like a bastard. Still, at least I’ll I’m on the mend, should be riding properly offroad by Xmas

Yeah, virus triggered an episode of Chronic Fatigue. Been unable to do any riding for 12 months. Has flown by and trough hard work and determination I managed to do my first ride in 12 months yesterday. But still a lOng way to go till I’m 100%.

Get some good box sets and books. It’ll fly by and you’ll be riding before you know it.

ugh i feel for all of the above, there is nothing worse than an injury causing forced downtime, sitting there all alone wondering how long ’till your back on your bike,… or even worse if you WANT to get back on a bike, but don’t give up!, you’ll be back before you know it doing what you love to do! As they say “what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger” get well soon peeps!

Pretty insignificant compared with some of the posts above, but I’m off the bike at the moment due to a running injury. Ligament damage in right knee from too much running. Keep thinking it’s fixed, then try a run or go on the bike and pain comes back after a mile or so. Gutted, got a half marathon in three weeks too.

Went over the bars descending on the hope valley loop, 10 weeks ago.

Fractures in humerus bone and ball have healed, now doing physio and have about 50 degrees of movement back.

Probably next year before I can get out again properly.

Relatively minor injnury compared to those on here but still off for however many weeks it will be. Going to see a shoulder specialist on Monday who will then take a view about whether to plate it or not – it’s the one on the left of the picture obviously, the one on the right (my left) was done about four years ago. Neat job that one.

    Yep.

10 weeks ago i fractured my hip socket (Which has healed enough for me to walk properly), and fractured my spine in a few places after having a massive smash at harthill (MTB pursuits).

Still wearing a brace for my spine, and i have 2 weeks left of having to wear it.

Currently going through physio for muscle loss for my leg and hip. I’ve also got massive core muscle wastage at the moment, which is so disheartening.

Not able to ride for another 6 weeks.. :/

Comparison seems a bit peak but a fracture radial head 10 days ago on the ride home.

Cant rotate it and hand impacts shoot up to elbow riding is not poss. Hoping to do D2D but no doubt will be ill prepared and sore.

Hope everyone else recovers well and quickly.

😆 Unfortunately the factors curtailing your bike riding opportunities are nascent and are about to get a whole lot more restrictive!

damaged left arm, had only jsut started riding after a broken collar bone on the right, and had only started riding again them after a lost of muscle damage on the left. feels like i’ve hardly ridden all year 🙁

still, all injuries could’ve been a lot worse and my bike hasnt snuck off through boredom so i know its waiting for me, itching to get back out and have some fun, just like i am 🙂

    get well soon everyone!

Broke my collar bone August 1st 2010 on a training day at Connock. Hoping to get the sling off tomorrow. That’s over a year 🙁 Not been in a sling the whole time, but have had to have 2 ops as the break wont heal.

And in the meantime i’ve screwed my knee – waiting to see a surgeon in the next 2 weeks, but he GP reckons a knee replacement – so could be off for quite some time.

The result of the wife’s 15 minute ride yesterday. Now a little bit sore after having it put back in. Big up to Gloucester hospital though, seen quickly and sorted.
