Worth looking for an ETRTO chart that shows which rim widths are recommended for different tyre widths. There's one on this page amongst other stuff.

Will you be riding one width more than the other?

If 2.6in most of the time, maybe steer towards a 35mm internal rim - as you'll have more choice and save a bit of weight.

Can't be arsed to be honest ..a quick nod in the right direction would have sufficed ..if you like an honest answer...instead of an arsey reply ..
No matter though I will be doing it anyway ..

I've been considering the Hope 35w wheelset for this purpose. However it might just be a jack of all, master of none, i.e. not optimal for either purpose.

If you were just running "Wide Trail" tyres you could drop to 30mm internal and save a bit of weight. Also you can drop skinnier if you need.

If you were just running 2.8 to 3.0 tyres then you'd be better with 40mm internal (I think).

A mate was running various tyres from a 2.3 MM to a 2.8 Maxis something on a 35mm Ibis, always seemed happy with it 🙂

Using 35mm rims with 3.0 Nobby Nics, seems to work fine.

Which would be fine, if you'd read it yourself and noticed it doesn't cover 2.6"-3.0" tyres wouldn't it?

Rule of thumb with big fat tyres is 2:1 as a minimum (i.e. a 50mm rim is ok with a 4" tyre). So the minimum you should be looking at is 37-38mm, although a 35 would probably be fine in reality as a lot of plus tyres are optimistically sized (a surly 2.8 is only 2.8 on a 50mm rim, the actual casing is about the same size as a lot of 2.5" tyres)

Using these with 3.0 both 29 and 27.5, as good as Velocity but way cheaper and tubeless with a bit of Gorilla tape...

@gil_ :

this is really a bargain.
Have an trail-bike with Alexrims (I use tubes so) - nothing wrong with those.

Really impressed with them, been trying to find some Blunts/P35 for an age and these are just as nice, maybe a fraction heavier but a nice welded joint and £35 each

Peel the stickers off if you're a brand whore 😉

I'm running 30mm internal rear for a 2.8 tyre, and 35mm internal front for a 3.0 tyre. Both feel great for me... they're the same tyres, and there is a noticable difference in tyre profile between the rims.

Very happy with mine, and the weights of the rims keep the combo feeling gooood without spending silly money/sacrificing durability.

YMMV

EDIT: pinkbike article on the whole sha-bang is a good read (cant find link, sorry)
