Thanks. Yeah that’s the build I was planning. Wondered if anyone had gone with crests and what they thought.

I looked at the iron cross rims but only reason I didn’t go for them was wanting to use Road tyres too.. Don’t think that they are rated for higher pressures. I think someone had some nice archetypes for sale the other week, also the kinesis cx wheels are great value and pretty light (not sure if they can be run tubeless

Ah OK, interesting point as I sometimes (very rarely) put road tyres on.

Yeah was interested in kinesis but not heard much about them. Not sure how they compare with hope.

What did you go for then?

Hope Pro 2 Evo’s with Iron Cross rims on my CX bike.
I’ve ran 28mm road tyres at 85psi before with no issues. Stan’s only recommend a max pressure of 45psi though.

Have done about 250 miles on them and cant fault them.
Im pretty sure they can be run tubeless but not 100% sure

Edit.. somafunk has run them tubeless…

Tripster ATR finally built up – lush!

Hmm. I haven’t had much luck with ghetto tubeless… Ever.

How/if you know do the Kinesis compare with the iron cross?

I’ve got Arch Exs on mine, run tubeless – overkill probably but it does mean I can ping down all manner of rocky trails without fear.

I have separate wheels for using it on the road (with road tyres).

hmm yeah I am heavy and bashy and unsure of how tough the Kinesis are.

If your heavy and bashy they the ironcross might not be ideal, sure they are basically the 700c version of the 26″ Alpine? not exactly built for abuse.

Are archetypes suitable for tubeless? the cross section diagrams seems to suggest no bead seat/shelf (much like old Salsa rims) so i cant imagine they would cope well with combination of low pressure and hard cornering you get in CX.

What about the new stand grail? only £75rrp (note JRA are charging more!) so maybe ask your LBS for a quote.

for stock wheels tho, Crest, Arch, Alpha (the road rim) or even Open-pro’s are all good rims. Choice is down to weight, cost and useage. Im sure even hope XC rim is OK tho have no experience.

Might be worth asking about the wheels here
