I have ordered one of these after having a golf for the last few years, does anyone know how easy it is to get a bike in the boot, as do not like externally carriage. I have a super V dale, so not easy to get on a lot of racks, if not anyone know who makes the roof bars other than VW as £300 seems a bit expensive???

Thule for good aero roof bars.

Not sure if the bike will go in easily, my mate has one and it looks like it'll be tight. A risk of scratching the paintwork maybe. Take your bike to the showroom and try it on theirs first.

Or, maybe you can get a towbar fitted? One with a detachable ball?

Nice cars, but if I was that worried about getting the bike in/on, I'd have considered it a lot more before ordering one.

Should have bought a golf if you are worried about fitting a bike in it.

I looked at the Scirocco earlier in the year. Very nice cars, but I thought the boot aperture was small compared to other hatch backs I was looking at. Bikes should go in and out fine, but I reckon you'll need to be careful to avoid not damaging the paint work.

Should have stay with the golf buddy. You live and learn.

Anyway thule make all VW group aero bars and yes VW branded ones are a rip off. Just give thule a ring and they will give the numbers of that fit, then go buy the carriers. Hope you haven't got a funny shaped bike or you'll need a tow bar fitting.

LOL at the naysayers. Don't be disheartened by them.

I can fit a week's luggage and two bikes in the back of mine and haven't scratched anything yet, or alternatively these roof bars cost £80 and are fine (Mick's Garage, they've got an ebay shop too). Bike racks are Thule 561 (or something, about £60 each) and fit just about anything.

Last Monday (catalogue pose on top of the Galibier!)…

Robbydog, thank for that info. What make are the roof bars and are they mounted in to the back window or both under the door?
