I still remember OILRIG from chemistry class.

Oxidation is Loss, Reduction in Gain. Something to do with electrons apparently.

“I before E except after C.” Only problem with this is it’s complete rubbish, there are so many common exceptions (science, vein, species, weird, eight, policies, I could go on) that you may as well not bother. Stupid, stupid rule.

‘Mr Vans Tramped’ sticks in the mind from French lessons – verbs that go with Etre in the perfect tense IIRC.

It works for a lot more cases in the form, “when the vowel sounds like ‘eee’, it’s I before the E except after C.”

Thought it was “of” (to mean multiplication for reasons which escape me)? Definitely not order, though.

Thinking about it, I take back what I said. Order makes more sense.
