Hi,
I have run my bike tubeless for about 18 months now with no issues. Successfully changed sealant and tyres about 5 times. However.....
I've been running a Continental Baron projekt on the front for a few months, liked it and decided to try one on the rear.
Did the usual and left it at 40 psi to seal, flipping it over to get all the holes filled.
Did one ride, a few days later looked at my bike and the rear was flat. I repressurised the tyre and left it for 2 days to seal.
Put it on my bike today - pressure gauge had it at 35 psi - and Rode around my street to test it.
It promptly blew off the rim quite loudly...
I carried my bike back, soaped up the bead and tried to pump it up. When I got to 35 ish psi it blew off again, causing my freehold to jump out of the wheel 😯
So, have I done something daft, or should I be looking at the tyre? The Baron on the front has been faultless!

Is it a proper tubeless tyre?

Have you checked the maximum pressures for the width of tyre? From what I read on one of my Stans rims, 40psi is the maximum for a 2.0" tyre. There is normally a sticker on the rim with this information on it.

When I had a tyre blow off the rim (at 65psi, I hasten to add, just to make sure it seated 😉 , it deformed the tyre shape and wouldn't seat very well again.

You might have damaged the bead, but I'd check your maximum pressures. They're much lower than you'd think for wide tyres.

The tyre is a real tubeless ready version. It was on a flow rim. It says 38 psi maximum for a 2.3. The Baron is a 2.4 can't see that I overinflated it too much

Have to say that this is the method I've used for a minion dhf, minion dhr2 and the front Baron projekt.

Maxxis. That's the answer if you want your tyres to stay on 😛

But seriously, can't really say other than things like a tyre bead defect, rim ding, or just that tyre isn't good for that rim as a tubeless combo.

Other thing is how much sealant do you use? I've not had popping off like that (only one burp and that was due to landing a wheel sideways 😀 ), but had one not hold pressure which was fixed by just more sealant.

I'm not sure about pumping up to 40+ psi to seal it. Stans advice is fill with sealant and ride, and I've read that a lot. Basically riding is the best way to ensure the sealant sticks. Personally I spin the wheels for a bit and flip side to side as I'm doing it, then just leave them if I'm not riding, pumped up to 20 to 30 or whatever I normally like. Seems to work fine.

Well refitted the original dhr2, and I'm going to drop off a few kerbs tomorrow to see how it goes.
If it's fine I may contact Continental.
What puzzles me is that the same type of rim and tyre on the front was the easiest tyre to install ever.

The Badger blowing up the plane tyre was always my favourite. 🙂
