Is a headset press the tool du jour? Can one get shaped cups to better support the bearings being pressed in?

What’s the recommendation? It’s costing £50 a pop for new PF bottom brackets so I don’t mind investing in the right kit if the payback period is less than a year (2 PF bikes in the house).

Depends on the type of BB and press, our Park h/set press won’t fit through Shimano BB’s. We’ve got a Shimano TL-BB12 press, and Wheels Manufacturing BB30 adaptors (which needed a minor skim to fit the Shimano press), a little pricey for what is essentially a long nut, bolt, and adaptors, but works nicely.

What type of BB is it? One of my bikes is a Cannonade with a BB30, I bought a cheap press which works a treat. Handy seeing as the bearings seem to need replacing a couple of times a year but it’s a piece of cake to do. 5 minute job at the most.
