    What a ballache.

Cleaned out a pile of ‘useful’ bits of wood that was much too large to be useful, cleaned up all the rubbish and junk on the floor, organised all the crap lying on the floor now there’s space to work. Just tidied up the workbench too. Far too much useless crap in storage boxes around the place though so I need to empty it out and reorganise everything so there’s space to put all the stuff I’ve bought in the five or so years since I last did this.

On the plus side though I might need to buy some more organisational stuff.

Did a little this afternoon too. Rain stopped a lot of the work as I needed space to sort!

Every time I go in there to work on the bikes I moan to myself about the fact that there’s no room on the work bench and I can’t find anything. Do I actually tidy I though….
I actually piled more stuff on there the other day and am now staring to build a new bike.
    JUST **** TIDY IT ADAM!!

Right. Decided to get rid of the table saw and I bought a huge storage box to go where it was. In that goes all the power tools and the car jack and axle stands. Not super happy about them all in there but not sure what else to do.

Then another set of mini drawers for the gubbins, and a storage tray for all my fasteners.

Re purposed an old toolbox for the tools that are in baksets on the shelves. Will rearrange the bins on the wall so I can fix commonly needed tools to a board. Must get some peg board.

Blokes should NEVER ‘tidy’ things. Particularly garages, sheds and the like. Everyone knows this. These places develop their own chaotic ecosystems over the years that you interfere with at your peril

‘turns out it’s the most efficient way of working….

(just need a computer to catalog all those pieces of wood and 26″ tyres and ISIS bottoms brackets)

Already bought the organiser, but that Aldi one does look good.

Re the axle stand wall thing – no room on the walls, it’s all covered. I may post a pic when it’s done.

Anyhoos, where is your vice? A tidy garage is still a useless garage without a vice.

Why have you got a small elephant under a large tea cosy in your garage?

My garage needs to store too much other stuff to look neat like those. Several bags of beach toys for the kids, for instance.

That’s the way to do it Merak, almost as tidy as mine. What’s the insulation on the door, has it made any difference?

Every time I tidy mine the wife decides to empty all the shite she’s accumulated in the house since the last time I cleared the shed of the all the crap she put in there the last time and piles it all in the shed.

Like painting the Forth bridge, I’ve given up

You’ve only got two, molgrips. Try beach toys for eight! That defines creativity.

I honestly cannot imagine. I was going to say that kids grow out of them but they probably grow into body boards and power kites and whatnot.

    This.

Not so bad if you tidy up yourself but if anyone else ‘tries to help’, you’ll never ever find anything you need,

I’d love a tidy garage, but whenever I try to tidy it more crap appears. Had to change a tyre on my commuter today and ended up doing it outside under the open garage door just to have a bit of elbow room.

Also dropped a bolt from my roof rack on Saturday, found a very large dead spider and the end of a park tyre lever.

I’m going Westfield or even a Dutton depending on how old you are… (I built one, what an agricultural thing it was too although it’s all I could afford to do with the rusting Mk 2 Escort it started out as)

My definition of cathartic is the feeling you get driving away from the tip having emptied a van load of stuff that could come in useful some day.

The fact the garage doesn’t look any different when you get back is a bit of a downer.

It is a Caterham – do they not do kits any more ?
