Has anyone been clonked with one yet while out riding their bike?

I just see them in a few months littering up the side of the roads, especially motorways.

Kill joy Me? Yes.

I used to have an old white 940 estate - it was excellent as you could just use red tape and create a huge cross of St George on the roof - awesome 🙂 You lot in your Audi's would have hated it...

My last couple of rides has seen plenty of them already littering the lanes round here. I guess the pound store tat just isn't designed to be attached to anything that actually gets driven without simply snapping off.

The chap I saw earlier in the AMG CL63 clearly had real quality ones 🙄

I don't. I just hate stupid, flimsy tacky flags that almost inevitably fall off and litter the countryside with non-biodegradable crap.

It's an ugly flag, plain and simple.
White shows the dirt. Hung outside a house, looks like they haven't managed to get the bloodstains out of the sheets.

It's a shame the England games aren't on at either 8am or 5pm. Commuting on the road bike would be a pleasure with so many folks watching the game instead of driving about.

Not seen any lying on the roadside.

Was wondering about ziptieing one to my bike helmet...would match the ones hanging out the kids bedroom windows.

(See my thread yesterday about Arctic Rolls and Greggs steak bakes you can buy in Iceland for more chavtastic revelations) 8)

I don't understand the hatred for flags, shirts etc. Personally I don't care how England do, I'm not patriotic, but I don't have a go! This is our country! People love the Brazilian passion, they love the NZ pride, but they hate people supporting England.

Its bemusing.

For a start its got a great big dirty offensive christian aspect to it.

All national flags should be white with the name of the country. Possibly the outline to make jography easier.

Patriotism is weird being proud of an accident of birth? Not for me.

Reclaim it is a patriotic symbol instead of a Christian symbol by hanging it from your car / bike / house etc during World Cups

I'm verr verr patriotic and will be hanging my home made flag high in the window for all to see. As said above, these car cheapo jobbies just end up flying about our countryside, injuring old grannies going about there business.

I might stick a St George's flag on our house after England get knocked out. I'm very patriotic but can't bear to watch football.

That probably has more to do with the people flying them than with the flag itself.

English people ?

So the question has to be asked... if it's a particular person who's being patriotic, then why are the rest of the country not being the same ? It just seems a bit weird to me that it's looked down upon by society in general to support the country.

People here 'supported' Wiggins and Froome who are both of slightly dubious descent, but supporting the England team in the world cup is dismissed ? not just dismissed, but abused and insulted.

Being a Scouser there's a famous song the Kop have sung when people have questioned Gerrards performances in an England shirt "We're not English we are Scouse"... obviously it's in jest, but shows that Liverpool isn't a very patriotic part of the country... but I can totally understand why some parts are.

See, now the Welsh are a good example. The wife is from Wales and is truly passionate at the Welsh history in her family.
I see loads of Welsh cars with the flag on the number plate, they really seem to care about it.

They do look a bit naff but it's cool that people are supporting the footy team even though they have no chance. I suppose those of us who aren't interested can ignore them and those don't have a team there already know what being a loser feels like.

Mainly because 99.9% of those displaying the flags are Chavs....

There's a real social class thing going on, business park I work on - 0 flags, council estate I cycle past on way to work, 60% cars have flags...

So footyflaps, living on a council estate makes you more likely to be a chav and support the England footy team, are you sure? Could be that they are getting the flags free with copies of the Sun?

I would wager a large sum of money that you'd find a higher proportion of car flags in council estates than in non council estates over the UK.

I think you're wrong.

That is your prerogative.

I've also seen "posh" cars with flags on too.

Overt displays of patriotism* like hanging big **** off flags from the front of your house meh, not my thing but knock yourself out. Festooning your car in cheap tat shitey flags, that's worth taking the piss.

*strangely they only ever really seem to coincide with sporting events (predominantly football) the rest of the time there's no flags to be seen. Not sure how patriotic wanting some overpaid footballers to win actually is, that's a love of sport rather than love of your country.

In Spain half the population considers it fascist to fly the national flag. As in Franco-loving-fascist.

If I could get an England flag to stick on my motorbike I would, and then I'd post a photo here knowing how much it pisses some people off 🙂

I want one for my bike.

Likewise. Some that fit in the end of my bars would be ideal.

On a different note, what's actually wrong with a three inch penis? Surely it's actually quite practical what with it not getting snagged in anything or flapping around like a wind sock...

Doesn't help that the far right parties all use the national flag as their emblem. We had a neighbour flying the union jack and I commented to the wife that the BNP had moved in, till she mentioned it was an old couple and probably to do with D-day etc. Personally, outside an Olympic stadium, I automatically associate the Union Jack with the BNP / Combat 18 etc.

Hmm, didn't think of that but it's probably easier to roll up the leg and slip it out of the bottom. Which is probably safer since it's quite easy to inadvertently let go of ones Lycra, flicking the old chap upward whilst still attempting to drain.

Yes, they're used predominantly by chavs, not by people with crap cars. Chavs and "posh" cars are not mutually exclusive...

I agree with footflaps, I think there's a real class thing, and would also wager a fair bit that they're far more prevalent on council estates! They look shit.

The Welsh flag is brilliant cuz its got a DRAGON on it man, A DRAGON! How ace it that, not even the Chinese have a dragon on their flag, and they invented dragons. Somerset doesn't count.

The Queens flag has dragons and lions on it, but they are cancelled out by having a harp aswell.

I can't argue with that. I think I'll become Welsh. What do I need? A funny accent with more Ls than strictly necessary? A great singing voice? A cheery countenance? Leeks?

very true, but how is everyone else deciding that 99% of car flag wavers are chavs? They'll be guessing based on different factors.

One flawed, badly reasoned viewpoint is deserving of another 🙂

True, but miserable. What are your views on Guy Fawkes night?

Nothing to do with it, people don't festoon their cars with cheap plastic tat that falls off and litters the countryside for Bonfire Night.
I would guess that you're OK with people tossing their food wrappers, plastic bottles, etc out of their car windows as well?

True, but how much do you actually see? I see the occasional stick with a bit of burnt paper on, which is biodegradable, and most tend to be in urban areas.

STW Hyacinth Buckets go into orbit as thousands of these are released on Thursday night...
EDIT: Don't worry CZ, they're "fully biodegradable."

In what way? Using bamboo strips? That stuff can cut a cow or horse's insides to ribbons, and they're incendiary; there have been a number of heath fires, houses burned out from the thatch catching fire, and crop fires blamed on those damned things.
