The Star Wars Spoiler Thread

Abrams said Star Wars was its own genre
Crock of shit. It’s only marketing that makes StarWars ‘special’. It’s just some films in space, with frikkin lazers.
kimbersFull MemberRob Hiltons right and i luuurve star wars.
can’t believe they’ve be lazy enough to have just reused the Ep IV plot so obviously with out it being a cunning ploy to appeal to the original fans back on side.
I think they failed with Star Trek as it’s become just another Hollywood blockbuster down to 3quid in the bargain DVD binJust like jj’s star trek’s galactic teleporter tho they blew a big hole in the universe when han came out of light speed inside the supetdeathstar’s shield, if only they’d thought of that in Return of the Jedi, they’d never have had to go to Endor and sing yub nub with the Ewoks
kimbersFull MemberOooh another thing…. Rey becoming a shit hot Jedi by just trying the voice a few times, its like the Dave grohl quote about talent shows and being shit in a garage for years before you become Nirvana.
JJ has brought us instant jedis for the xfactor generation, of course Rey could just be thrumming with Midiclurians 😉chakapingFull MemberI understand what you mean about it being cynical Kimbers, not sure I’d have chosen the same word but the Starkiller Base plotline did feel a bit lazy and needlessly derivative.
However, I think JJ’s just decided to run with the idea of Star Wars basically being a western in space – with the characters being more important than an elaborate new setting and objective.
Yeah it could have been something more imaginative, but he and his team have done a bloody good job of what they’ve delivered.
9/10

But obvious bits in the film make it clear that we do not know evrything about Reys back story, its not clear she does either. Plot holes are only plot holes if they are not filled later and we know its a 3 film series.

Begging the question what film or films would you rate 10/10?
kimbersFull Member10/10 you say ?
What’s the internal temperature of a Tauntaun ?
– Luke warm.
RicBFull MemberSaw it. Loved it.
Expectations low after the awfulness of ep1-3 but I thought JJ captured the spirit of the originals very well, whilst introducing new characters.
Did anyone else spot the fact the Red Dwarf-esque smuggler gang was the cast from The Raid?! I was hoping for some martial arts awesomeness other than a spinning despair squid but hey….
For completeness, Klyo’s first screen time was in the classic yellow pages advert….
Oh and weird bug-eye lady is Edna from Invincibles
shermer75Free MemberNice to see Adam Driver getting some work after playing the giant in Big Fish

With respect, I reckon I could’ve captured the spirit of the originals (falcon+x-wings+chewie & Han love in) plus introduced new characters myself. That’s not exactly ground breaking is it.
Point being, by his own admission he was handling huge cinematic baggage with legions of middle aged fans waiting on baited breath – and he came out with Ep4-pt2.
It needed more convincing villains, and a better Empire/New Order back plot. The ease of destruction of planetoid weaponry and simplicity of Force mastery was just way too lazy.Nipper99Free MemberWas ok but nothing special but was always going to be judged by the 11 year old me from 1978.
molgripsFree MemberIt’s not force mastery, it was basic force skills coupled with already being bad ass. And we’ve always known that stormtroopers are easy to do mind tricks on.
Plus she could already have been partially trained, as mentioned.
Harry_the_SpiderFull MemberJust found out that the Storm Trooper that undoes the restraints, leaves the cell door open and drops his blaster was Daniel Craig.
BoardinBobFull MemberI reckon Rey will turn out to be “the chosen one”. At the end of RotS Obiwan tells Anakin “You were supposed to be the chosen one” and clearly he wasn’t. I’m guessing Rey will turn out to be the true chosen one, hence why she’s so skilled with apparently little or no training.

Bruce Willis is really dead in The Sixth Sense
forzafkawiFree MemberHaving killed his father I’m looking forward to Kylo Ren shagging General Leia in the next episode “The First Order Strikes Back”.

I think he says the chosen one is supposed to “bring balance to the force”. And he did! Before he came along there were loads of good jedi and only 2 bad jedi, by the time the film was finished there were 2 of each.
Never trust a Chosen One.
back2basicsFree Memberno one has said anything about this yet but……….
why did luke need to find the first Jedi Temple ??? any theories???
considering the Jedi have been around for 1000s of years what could possibly be there that luke would need after his little “darlings” got slaughtered by Ren and his team/knights/groupies.

It’s where he could undergo some proper ultra serious badass jedi training. Irish Jedi are double hard bastard jedis compared to the rest of them.

He’s a barely trained jedi trying to train new jedi and it’s going badly. (this is a recurring theme isn’t it? Post-return-of-the-jedi, nobody seems to have been very succesful. Not as bad as Lucas but still). So he’s off to find the Jedi-mcguffin that’ll fix that. The jedi didn’t need it before because they thought they knew what they were doing- though tbh in the prequels it’s pretty obvious they didn’t have a blimmin clue.)
(spoiler- it’s one of these.

Goodfellas, The Seven Samurai, The Princess Bride, Repo Man… I can’t do you an exhaustive list sorry.
None of the other Star Wars movies though.

-I brought some o’ the grandkids to the new Star Wars there earlier.
-Wha’ was it like?
-A load o’ shite.
-I heard it wasn’t too bad.
-It was shite, I’m tellin’ yeh. It looked like it was made in the Phoenix Park with a load o’ wheelie bins painted white. Absolute ****’ drivel. It made no ****’ sense.
-Was Princess Leia in it?
-Yeah – played by Angela Merkel.
-That’s alrigh’, isn’t it? Yeh’d trust Angela to save the world.
-Only if she’s playin’ Angela in a fillum about Angela. Not in this ****’ thing. She looks lost. She couldn’t handle a fart, let alone the European economy. But the worst bit – .
-Go on.
-They’re tryin’ to find that irritatin’ little prick from the first fillum. Luke Skypilot. An’ d’yeh know where they find him? In all the ****’ Galaxy an’ infinity or wherever. Where do they ****’ find him?
-Where?
-Kerry.
-****’ Kerry?
-Not even Kerry. A rock off the side o’ Kerry. He’s been hangin’ off a stone in the middle o’ the ****’ Atlantic. Not a Spar or a pub in sight. An’ this **** is goin’ to save us? For **** sake.jimjamFree Memberchakaping – Member

Um…..er…..wow.
shermer75Free MemberJust seen it for the second time, still awesome. Was anybody else slightly disappointed by the lack of variety in the resistance star fighters- where were the A,B and Y wing fighters?
cheekygetFree Memberkelvin – Member
Well, my lad wants to see it again.Same here my boy loved it…” Best film ever”…… Which is exactly what I said to my dad waaaay back in 77.
I thought it was great……I think it’s best to watch it as if you was a kid again…stop reading too much into it…..
SannyFree MemberI saw it the other night on IMAX and really enjoyed it. So much so that I am going to see it tomorrow night again. 😀
It’s an enjoyable romp but not perfect. Adam Driver is bloody awful as Kylo Ren and is in serious danger of equalling Anakin in the prequels for sheer bloody annoyingness! He makes Chewie look like Larry Olivier. I kept thinking of the lead in Young Sherlock Holmes from the eighties. He was rubbish too!
As for Carrie Fisher, it looks like her but the trout pout and the voice that speaks of too many substances being ingested made me feel like I was watching a wooden lookalike. She has gone from sparky and interesting to world weary. Sad to see.
The ginger baddie could do with toning it down more than a little while Snook the Supreme Leader had me thinking of Sacha Baron Cohen in the dictator and Golum. I sincerely hope that he looks less CGI in the next to films.
Other than that, Rey and Finn are excellent characters to cheer on, Chewie was brilliant, the action scenes were really well cut together with none of this trendy shakeycam fast editing so beloved of Paul Greengrass.
I came out of the cinema both in shock at Han Solo throwing a seven and elated at seeing a Star Wars film that wasn’t shit. I still remember the disappointment of coming out of the cinema after seeing The Phantom Menace and thinking that I waited 16 years for this crap? 😀 Overall, a fine effort that managed to exceed my expectations. Good days!

B.A.NanaFree MemberIMAX 3D today, I loved it all, the kids were impressed with whole IMAX 3D experience, but not the film particularly. Did anyone else spot the Apocalypse Now nod/ref bit?
mikewsmithFree Memberon the other people in it probably done already but Simon Pegg got in too

all about who you know really, there is an interview where he basically said it was just awesome to be part of it all.As for the how and why and all that it will provide much speculation for the next couple of years, personally I’m glad there is room to imagine and the plot isn’t screaming out as to where it goes, (one of) the greatest flaws in the prequels was we all knew what was coming, it was basically how long till he turns. This time we don’t know what will become of who, which way they will go except for more plans will be stolen, more massive bases will be blown up and good will prevail after some sacrifice.
shermer75Free MemberYep, Daniel Craig is the storm trooper who releases Rey and drops his gun when she is prisoner on Star Killer Base, and Ewan McGregor reprises his role as Obiwan Kenobi with some dialogue during Rey’s force-induced vision after picking up Luke’s old lighter sabre
jambalayaFree MemberExcellent, loved it 🙂 been avoiding this thread and all spoilers for 3 weeks. IMAX 3D was well worth it. Very happy so much was filmed in the UK and with British cast.
Spoilers, Being shot by a blaster doesn’t make you bleed unless you reach out and touch someone. Harrison Ford can’t run, Boyega/Finn has a not totally horrific American accent. If you didn’t know it was Hamill/Luke Skywalker you wouldn’t recognise him, time has not been kind. Mind you anyine stuck on an Island off the coast of Ireland might look a bit weather worn.
Lucas must have his nose of joint as he’s sold the rights and Disney have made a fantastic film whixh has people already waiting for the next one.
squirrelkingFree MemberThoughts –
No new ships? As said new TIE fighters and a new generation of X wings (compare Poes mission ship with the later ones, the first is an original/ MkII).
Poe took a while getting back? He was back before Finn and Rey made it to the cantina place, I was questioning how he got back to everyone so quickly.
Rey Lukes daughter? Dunno but given I correctly guessed who Ren would be I’m going to go out on a limb and say she’s a little more refined than that. Lets just say there are three origin films and I’m guessing tbey aren’t just fan service.
CougarFull MemberRey is surely Luke’s daughter. It’s the only explanation that makes any sort of sense, unless she’s wholly unconnected which doesn’t seem likely (isn’t Luke the last of the Jedi?) and not very interesting plot-wise.
That does rather raise the question though as to who her mother is. Given the number of female characters in the canon Star Wars universe, unless our Mr Skywalker had a secret fling with an Ewok I can only presume it’s someone we haven’t seen yet.
frankiFree MemberHarrison Ford can’t run
To be fair to the guy – he’s knocking on a bit and he did break his leg during filming…

🙂The interviews on Graham Norton where good, speaking of how Ford ventured into East London with Boyega, ensured everyone in the restaurant knew he was there. Then after surviving “risky” East London he broke his leg after a door fell on him at the studio
mikewsmithFree MemberDidn’t he also crash a plane during filming? Honestly how many blokes of 73 run well except for the nutter fell runners
