Has anyone put an Ec44 bottom cup into a straight head tube & then run a tapered steerer fork in it? Any problems/issues? Is it structurally OK? Struggling to find a new fork for my old winter HT.
    Thanks for any input👍

do you have a straight 44mm ID head tube?

If it’s a 44mm head tube then it’ll push straight and be fine. It may raise the front end a tiny bit but not enough to notice. Basically it’s fine. If it’s an old school straight steerer head tube then it would not fit

As above. Classic 1.125 headsets are EC38. EC44 is for straight 44mm inner diameter headtubes and allows them to use a 1.5>1.125 tapered steerer. i.e. Chris King Inset 7.

    1-1/8″ threadless, semi-integrated, semi-cartridge bearings

Sounds like you may have a 44mm ID semi-integrated but not being designed for an external cup might mean that the 44mm ID area is quite shallow and not enough room for the headset to slide into properly. An external cup will also add stack height.

No tapered forks going in that.

Like has been said above it just depends on how deep the recess is in the frame (I have a giant frame that Is only 7mm deep) but as far as I understand it “semi intergrated” is the same as integral and so yes you should be able to fit an ec44
