I have just got a canyon stoic 2 with this fork but it sometimes doesn’t get best reviews. Any thoughts welcome.

Budget. Limited adjustment. The tunability will depend on whether you have a coil or air one. If I had a coil it would be the first on the list for an upgrade.

    It has an air one.

Feel annoyed if they are budget as the bike cost £850! Not high end but not lowest.

As long as it’s the air one it’s pretty good for an £850 hardtail to be honest.

Difficult to beat the spec of the Stoic for the money. Only maybe a Vitus Sentier trunks it with the X Fusion 32 air fork for the price – but the xcr34 is probably stiffer. Vitus has been out of stock since about Feb / March time.

I’d just ride it and enjoy it. If the fork ever gets a bit messed up inside then at that point the frame is well worth an upgrade to something like a pike or fox 34

I feel you pain, but it isn’t hard to buy a fork alone for £800. The air fork will at least be adjustable for your weight and riding preferences. A more expensive fork would be lighter and more adjustable. The bottom line is do you really need it? At this level, the adjustability of air is way better than the heavier coil.

EDIT: I’m not 100% that the x-fusion is better.

i’d take a 34mm stanchion over 32 all day long.

I’m not 100% either – but the xcr is Suntour’s lowest spec air fork. I’d generally expect x fusion air forks to be a bit better on the damping and longevity front.

You’re complaining about the fork not being good enough? I’m not sure there are any other mid-travel 34mm forks that fall into that price band tbh.
Looking at the range if I were looking for a bike to recommend, it would have been the stoic 3 with the Recon and the dropper. But you get what you pay for and 850£ amazingly gets you a 34mm stantion air fork and 11 speed deore. That wasn’t the case only a few years ago.

What sort of dropper post should I look to get? Need advice on siZe really. The Brand X ascend looks good value. What sort of travel? 125mm or 150mm.

Brand X are great. Loads of people on here using them long-term with no issues.

Fit the longest one you can…so work out how much post you’ll have showing and then buy based on the collar to head length of the dropper post.
