My parents would like to do a family trip next year in the October week next year, what would the hive mind suggest for the requirements below? My initial thoughts are southern Spain, Cyprus, or Canary Islands but I know nothing about any of them so wouldn’t have a clue which areas to target/avoid. Would Paphos or Malaga be decent choices?

    • By the sea
    • Warm enough to lounge by a pool during the day
    • Unlikely/minimal risk of rain (as much as it can be avoided in October)
    • Good selection of high end villas to choose from (hotel is a no-go)
    • Feels more like a town than a resort (might not be achievable), i.e. isn’t full of cafes selling full English breakfasts
    • Walkable/easy access from accommodation to good restaurants/cafes but still feels like you’re reasonably secluded (pretty much dependent on the accommodation really)
    • Activities nearby to entertain kids (age 6 and 2) – this is a pretty big one and probably rules out a lot of places I’d be tempted by like Sicily
    • Not outside of Europe

    Honestly, Canary Islands.

In October, you ‘can’ get some nicer weather in the Med or other areas, but honestly if you just want the best chance of a nice beach/sea/swimming climate, then the Canary Islands are a much safer bet.

No doubt there will be some cretin along shortly telling us why they wouldn’t be seen dead in Tenerife and you should be in a vegan spoon whittling retreat on the far side of the moon, but this:

Feels more like a town than a resort (might not be achievable), i.e. isn’t full of cafes selling full English breakfasts

Is very easy to acheive with a bit of research in the Canaries.

25+ in Alicante currently and for the next 2 weeks 🙂
October can be the rainiest month as well, so last 2 weeks in October this year could be shit 🙂

Thanks, I suspect Canary Isles will end up being the best option given noone wants to deal with rain!

I am not sure about the accommodation options as have only ever stayed in all-inclusive hotels, but maybe have a look at some of the quieter Turkish resorts – we have been to Side & Calis beach before – both pretty relaxed & chilled out.

Both very warm when we went at the end of Sept.
