Kinesis wheels – as a package, they are well built, allegedly being built by the same place that does Reynolds wheels. They’re stiffer than you would think from the weight and reasonably strong. They are made of much harder ally than stans. The rim joints are sleeve bonded and I had the front fold under me for no good reason. On inspection, it hadn’t been glued properly and it was warrantied for me. They’re stated as tubeless ready rims, but they’re not the easiest, and are certainly harder to tubeless than stans or the light bike rims I have on the other bike.
My rear hub has been a total pain after the first 6 months of use. I’ve stripped a free hub and destroyed a set of pawls by breaking the tops off the teeth of both parts. Pawls are not readily available either.
I’ve very recently picked up a rear hub to build into the back wheel from the classified, since I’m not prepared to throw good money after bad.
Ultimately I’ve decided to retire them as emergency spares and replace them with light bike carbons on DT Swiss.
I’d buy a set of hope hoops with stans arches if I was buying a wheel package again.
