Recently heard this (“Everywhere I go” by Lissie) played at a funeral and it really grabbed the emotions of people there:

Had this conversation with friends up the road, their son (13) said when his mum dies he’s having them play ‘Ding Dong the Witch is Dead!’ delivered absolutely deadpan as left the room – brilliant!

I may follow Peter Sellers’ lead and have them play something that I really hate just because I won’t be there to hear it. For me, Soft Cell’s Tainted Love.

As a sometime bona fide gigging musician whose music was welcome rather than tolerated (not any more mind!), I once skilfully murdered/pastiched Metalica’s “nothing else matters” at a house party, only to find that it had very recently been played at a funeral of one guest’s friends who had taken his own life. There is no emoticon that says how bad a thing that was.
