Are there any short loops that could be done post dinner or before breakfast from Buckden? 60-90 minutes, more steady than racer.

Staying there with work stuff in Yorkshire Dales next week and can't decide whether to take the bike. Nothing too cheeky, I'm staying with the local Ranger team 😆 and I don't know if they are as liberal as me about cheeky trails.

They are all short loops in mileage terms, but there will be quite tough climbing, so 60-90 minutes, I'm struggling a bit.

From Kettlewell, you could go up about two thirds of the way up onto Old Cote Moor (some pushing) and down the Fosse Wood descent to Starbotton in roughly that time. You could also climb up on the other side onto the flank of Buckden Pike from the north side of the village and descend one of two ways to Starbotton again.

Have an early dinner, then you've got at least three hours!

Pretty much this, it's light till 22.00 - I'd personally go before and just have a late tea instead of dinner to be honest - not least because riding any time shortly after dinner sounds like hard work.

Dinner is kind of fixed as a group booking. Booked early-ish but we're normally running late.

Worth putting a bike in then, maybe even the wife's ebike 😄

I'll reiterate my suggestion, go somewhere early, eat late.

Maybe go for a ride if you've the inclination.

Is there stuff to the west as well?

Browsing satellite images I now recognise having previously stayed in Halton Gill and riding over the tops before descending through the woods into possibly Starbottom. That was a big day out though so maybe doesn't match what I asked for.

Again, depends how much time you have - accessing any of the descents involves a fairly long tough climb. Starting in Buckden cuts your options. If you have the ebike, maybe try to clean the climb up to Buckden Pike and back down?

Using OS website, now realise the wooded descent is the Fosse Wood one mentioned earlier 👍

Take your bike. All the bridleways are worth riding up and down with lots of short loops possible, especially with the odd cheeky link up on the tops. We went over Buckden Pike yesterday, up the bridleway from Buckden with some pushing near the top, over the slabs to the Walden Road descent which is dry as a bone and running well: a 470m continuous descent with one gate, tho had to trundle behind a farmer on a quad for a couple of minutes on the one narrow section. Strava says an hour eighteen, and we were talking it pretty easy (I've done it all quicker). We were going to ride a loop on the other side but it was hot and a pint got in the way.

Took the bike. Didn't get out post dinner as we were forever running late. A quick morning spin worked out nice though.

Bike to work in Dales
