Hi,

My shimano xt m785 levers have had it. The master cylinder is sticking and not releasing the lever so the caliper is locking.

Rather then replace the whole lot can I just replace the levers?

It seems xt m8000 levers are Cheaper than xt m785 levers.

I'm guessing they will have the same fitting.

Will they have the same push ratio and be compatible?

Has anyone got any experience of this set up?

And if it does, does anyone want to swop my 2 month old xt 11 speed, I spec b shifter for an Ispec 2?

Thanks

I haven't compared them side by side but I can't see much of a difference between the two.

You know there's a 2 warranty yeah? Mine failed like yours, Shimano sent me a set of M8000 very nice they were too.

Yep ... I've got a brand new/unused I spec II M8000 shifter.
(I've been waiting to buy a M8000 lever and I have a cassette and mech and chain...so ... why not)

Just sent back my m8000, the levers are are refusing oil, seems a common problem

Hi ... messaged back the address.

Might be later in the week ... (I'm banned from driving due to the fracture and the PO is a fair ways ...)

I'd avoid m8000 levers if you can, better off with SLX m675 or Deore. Too many problems with m8000.

I have run M8000 levers on M785 calipers for 18 months on a Geometron in the Lake District (so they have been hammered on massive descents). I have experienced zero issues. The caveat to this is I also use Goodridge hoses which I believe eradicates several Shimano issues with leaks, lack of power and bite point movement. No issues bleeding either, couldn't be simpler after major first bleed when fitted, just lever end mini bleed once in a blue moon.

Hi,

Thanks for all your help especially Steve xtc for swopping Ispec b for Ispec 2 shifter.

Ive just ordered m8000 levers they have a 2 year warranty so I'm confident they will be fine.

Cheapest I found was bikeinn at £30 each which included post.

https://www.bikeinn.com/bike/shimano-xt-bl-m8000-left/135997005/p?utm_source=google_products&utm_medium=merchant&id_producte=2685638&country=uk&gclid=CPHK-_TphdUCFQwo0wodEswI9Q&gclsrc=aw.ds

When I've fitted them I'll leave some feedback for others who are in the same situation.

New levers have been fitted to the old hoses and calipers now for a couple of weeks. They are working great. No issues at all.

Brakes took an age to arrive from bikeinn. 1st time I've used them, probably won't use them again.

Brakes feel exactly the same as before but I think the m8000 look slightly better and they have the holes in the lever for grip.

Thanks again for the advice. £60 was far better than £150!

Glad it all worked out...
I still have the i-Spec B to fit on one of Jnr's bike but need to work out the whole thing...
I own 3 sets of i-spec B levers .... so not ready to chuck ... but Jnr is currently using one set of wheels between his XC bike and Trail bike.... and swapping a cassette every time isn't on my things to do list!

if anyone else digs up this thread looking for compatibility answers..

I have been running the opposite.. M785 levers with an M8000 caliper for a few months now with no issues 🙂
