Everyone wanted an ellsworth, that annodised finish and the look, yeah they bobbed a bit but they looked good! Had an ID back in the day, horrible bike due to the high BB and ride characteristics, but it looked pretty!

Had a I.d for a while but it rode like a bag of snakes so binned it off. Finish was top notch though.
This new ebike is bonkers.

Ended up on a group ride with Tony Ellsworth (and Josh Bender) in Utah when we were on holiday there. Wasn’t particularly a fan of his bikes before then, definitely wasn’t afterwards. Loud, brash American surrounded by a bunch of whooping American fanbois. Eurgh.

TBH, that covers a substantial proportion of the American population (and you could substitute a lot of other nationalities in there and it would still be true).

It was an Ellsworth Joker in that beautiful anodised blue that brought me to this very forum in the first instance in about 2008 IIRC.. Hence my very unimaginative user name.. I had to very quickly setup a login so I could buy the bike! I drove across the width of the country that evening to pick it up. It was my first full suss bike and I LOVED that thing. Chris King headset, Hope 4 pots, Fox forks, Thomson stem, etc. It was my first proper bike.

My dad had it for a while after me and when I built him up a more suitable bike, sold it to a pal of mine who still rides it. We were up Hamsterley recently when some lads stopped him after shouting “Nee way mate is that an Ellsworth Joker?? I always wanted one of those back in the day”. He’s always getting retro bike comments after coming from an old Marin Pine Mountain (I think) before the the Joker.

I had an iD, loved it at the time, rode it for 16 years, wanted to get my moneys worth out of it! finally got a new bike a couple of years ago, that anodized gold still looks like new when its cleaned up.

Maybe Ellsworth are trying to make Harley’s effort look good?

I lusted after a Truth but couldn’t afford one so got an ISIS instead – single pivot full susser. Loved it! But i kept breaking it which was fine for a while as Freeborn kept honouring the lifetime warranty. Also had a Distance which was the successor frame and that was a pretty decent bike. When I broke it the warranty was up.

I had a Joker. It was alright, it was a better bike than I was a rider. I got to the point where I scared myself as I was going so fast that I thought when I come off (when, not if), I’m going to get seriously hurt, so I moved to riding my other bikes more and eventually stripped the joker to build an inbred for Mrs NBT, then sold the frame to buy her some GHD hair straighteners

I remember renting an Isis to ride around Moab for a day. There are some steep rolls / chutes and it was horrifically bad whether you were going up, down or along the flat.

I too had an ID. It was horrendous, nearly put me off for life – I’ve never had as many offs, before or since. Nice finish, though. I thought it looked nice, too.

I think on two occasions I took it into Fat Tread Bikes and Martin called me advising he’d found cracks. I got decent value out of it, plenty of miles in those days.

I had an ellsworth specialist. Thought it was the most beautiful bike in the world at the time.
