Looking for a boost rear wheel ... All we seem to have spare are 142... Generally have hope hubs and was looking for a pro 4 on a 30 or 35 mm rim, not a lot in stock so should we go for
DT Swiss 240 or 350 on Alex 30 rims?
Superstar v3 hub on wtb29 rims?
Or wait for hope pro 4 on fortus rim?
Freehub sram XD drive required.
Thoughts, real world reviews or in stock alternative s to above welcome.
DT Swiss are the best you can buy at the moment IMO. Simple, reliable and generally lighter than Hope.
My order of preference would be 240, then Hope (but not with a fortus rim) then 350. Not tried SS, but I’m in no rush to.

To be fair I have a Superstar V6 with Stans Flow rim and it's a very nice wheelset. My choice would still be 350 hub with 481 or 511 rim depending on how hard you ride
Dt hub & rim
Hub, 240 if you want to spend the coin, 350 for good £-performance
Pick the Dt rim to your width/strength requirements
Simply the best out there at the moment IMO
I ‘might’ consider hope hub on Dt rims.... nope, still get the the Dt hubs 😉
If you have a spare wheel why not just boost kit it.
HOPE for for investing in long term cost justification. recently bought a service kit for some 2008 pro2 hubs for an old wheelset destined fon mini mons bike otherwise it would have been the cost of a new hub + wheel build.
Maybe Irrelevant if SS or DT offer same service but I’ve owned hope hubs since almost day one with no complaints, rims are shyte though.
DT Swiss 240 would be my first choice and then the Hope, i have both but prefer the ratchet design of the DT over pawl hubs.
I recently got a pair of DT 1501 from CRC for less than £500 which I thought was a bargain, I think the rear on its own was just over £300, with a 40mm rim 27.5.
They have the 249 hubs too.
Either DT or Hope will be great, no experience of SS.
Both last for ages, you'll save some money going Hope over the DT 240, and pay a slight weight penalty for it but considering the cost saving, it's nothing. DT 350's are a great hub too, and if available, go for it over waiting for the Hopes
I've got two SS rear hubs, both seem fine, no issues.
I also have some Hope hubs, they are also excellent.

I have one of those, it is also excellent.
I did have some very *very* cheap unbranded hubs that always sounded a bit off, but even they never actually broke. I just lost the end caps and couldn't source new ones.
If money is not the issue then I like my DT 240 with whatever the EX rim is currently.
BUT, I have been running Superstar V6 hubs with their Isotope rims on my hardtail for a year and no issues at all. Wheel was nicely put together (for a change?).
So can get a
Superstar Rear V6 hub on with tc29 rim £140
Or
Dr Swiss 240 rear and 350 front on Alex rims for£330
Thoughts and what are Alex rims like?
Cheers
what's the width? at that price the rims are disposable. they'll likely be fine for a couple of years of good use assuming a decent build to start with but you'll have a decent set of hubs to rebuild with when it becomes necessary.
i'm not a fan of scrimping on wheels because it can have a massive impact on how a bike feels.
30 mm rims and agree, DT Swiss but going to upgrade 18t to 36t.
In the great tradition of recommending what you've got, I run a DT Swiss XM 1501 wheelset which has 240 hubs although I'm running XC thin 25mm rims on mine.
I'm a lifetime DT Swiss convert after owning this wheelset. Insanely light for an aluminium build and strong as hell. Just as strong as the stock carbon wheelset that came with my bike but miles more durable.
If / when the rims die I'll get the hubs rebuilt onto some wider 30mm rims. The hubs feel as if they'll last a lifetime and are really quiet (never been a huge fan of the Hope "gatling gun" freehub sound).
Boost adapters and run your 142 wheels.
I've had hope pro 4 hubs and currently run Dt Swiss 240 and 350. There's nothing wrong with Hope hubs and I'd happily have them again. But only if I couldn't get DT Swiss ones instead.
Newmen Fade - sounds nice, no problems, light.
Hope - sounds nice, no problems.
DT Swiss - nearly drove me insane (on roadbike) due to oscillating sound.
Went with a DT Swiss set up (350 front and 240 rear with 36 t ratchet upgrade) on 30mm rims...I am no longer a fan of 19 or 21 mm rim .....total cost just slightly more than hope pro 4 rear wheel.
