In fact he does pretty reasonable and informative videos and runs the Silly Cyclists website which highlights good and bad roadcraft from cyclists.

I must admit i thought the guy a bit of a tool, but i have just watched the latest episode of silly cyclist and tbh it’s changing my mind.

I ride around Newcastle quite a bit on a motorbike, 20mph limits are no good to me as the speedo doesn’t start until 40kph.
I am looking for a UK spec speedo for it, honest 🙂

Anyone else notice that its usually women drivers who are now going to have to pay increased insurance premiums,that are becomeing more aggresive,more idiotic,capable of more stupid manouvers and dont look properley at junctions, and double and triple parking outside schools and shops because they dont do walking.

As for buses, coaches and lgv,s there driving ability seems to have massively improved recently, probably due to in and on vehicle cctv.I very rarely have a problem with 40 tones of lgvon 6 axles, yet put someone in a meriva or a german car and theyre a sycopath.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard a car horn behind me and responded by veering into the middle of the road without looking.

Or are you suggesting that some peds are deliberately “taking the primary” on the path as a strategy to make sure they are seen and force cyclists to wait till they are past a hazard (dog egg?) before overtaking?

you having a go at people riding primary or those that hug the gutter then veer sharply out to avoid parked cars? Often without looking behind them. Pretty dodgy manoeuvre that I’ve seen a lot, but one that drivers are supposed to look out for – well when I was learning we were told to expect it. Another reason for using primary (where applicable)

That woman who walked in front of the cyclist without looking was a perfect illustration of there being no such thing as an accident AND it taking two people to cause a crash.

She looks to see whats behind her – there is no crash OR
He slows down – there is no crash.

Both people do something dumb – there is a crash.
Both people are negligeny – there is a crash.

Project in the past it always seemed to be blokes who did aggressive dangerous moves, racing passed or cutting you up, while women tended to do inattentive stuff pulling out of a side street or just not looking when changing lanes etc. Recently seen women doing aggressive stuff too, wouldn’t say it’s predominantly women tho, all anecdotal of course and memory can play tricks so who knows.

Just watched this, first few minutes absolutely terrified me. Not just the consequences of the incidents captured on film, but the fact that I could so easily visualise myself in that very same position…

You want me to provide proof that your perception is flawed? Give me a couple of minutes. I’ll come back to it after I’ve proved there is no God.

That’s nice, isn’t it. Frightening. But nice.

It does however highlight the real need for cyclists to have a voice. Perhaps one not so antagonistic as often is the case in the heat of the moment. (Not a trait exclusive to cyclists but of humankind – hence the counter-aggression). A proper reasoned one. One that everyone can relate to.

Finally got around to watching that last night. A lot of unpleasant people about, in cars and on bikes. Kept thinking that most of the drivers and cyclists would benefit from doing the motorbike training and some IAM stuff.
