A protest against the closure of Coed y Brenin is planned at Coed y Brenin Visitor Centre at 2pm on Saturday October 5th 2024.

Caru Coed y Brenin are a not-for-profit community group hoping to take on the running of the Visitor Centre and Cafe and are organising the day’s activities. Check their Facebook page and Website to find out more or to donate some cash to help!

There will be running and cycling sessions from 11am in the morning, teas and coffees, Caru CYB merchandise, with the protest itself at 2pm!

Who are they protesting at whilst there? I’m sure none of the staff are keen on loosing their jobs and I doubt any decision makers will be within 100 miles of the site. I agree with their sentiment. I just don’t see how this will help

true but if you get 100 vehicles in, and the car park machine is broke again, it shows negligence when you think how much revenue is lost by this

The decision makers might not be there in person, but they’ll certainly hear about it and see the pictures. It should help by demonstrating to them the depth of feeling (again) against closures. NRW don’t actually seem to know what they’re doing – they’ve made no final decisions yet – so there’s still time for them to find better solutions than closure. Caru Coed y Brenin (Love CyB) want to be offered a fair shot at running the centre on a not-for-profit basis, rather than it just being handed over to a for-profit company, and so want to use this event to highlight their cause and raise their profile too.

I am amazed at the lack of interest in this.

Last call for anyone local to get down TODAY! 2pm at CyB. If you care about mtb, make sure everyone knows about it!

Well attended. Around 250 people present, including the BBC (local news tonight probably). The main thrust was an appeal from the local MP to NRW for time to enable Caru CyB ( the local community group) to formulate a viable management proposal. I’m not sure what form this would take.

Good on everyone who attended. We will be travelling down from Scotland in the next couple of weeks for a week in N Wales, and CyB is always on the visit list.

Can someone summarise the background to this?

NRW re-focused strategy away from leisure provision and budget cuts mean less cash available for running the centres. This is juxtaposed against their actual popularity and potential benefits to the area, mtb community and society at large.

Bloody environmental fanatics. I blame that Greta Thunberg. Lock em all up, I say.

Am I getting the hang of this?

Not really. If Caru CyB can persuade NRW of a sustainable way forward, then it will fit with the new strategy. Greta is welcome.
