Pokémon card value advice

My 7yr old has recently got into Pokémon, something that until now has passed me by. What an eye opener!

A much older cousin has given him a large stash of old cards.

Going through this I’ve identified a card which may (or may not) be worth a few quid (anywhere from approx £100 to a few grand).

It’s a Charizard GX from the Burning Shadows run and is an ultra rare (I believe) being number 150 of 147.

It’s holographic (I think) and is in reasonable condition, with a couple of small creases (kids!)

The thing that’s throwing me though is that the year of issue for these is 2017 and every other card of this type I’ve looked at has 2017 as the date. This card however is a 2018. I can’t find any others with this date or anything about date errors on Pokémon cards.

So, is this a fake, or is it a super, super rare card that will pay off mine and my sister’s mortgages?

Or is it unremarkable and it’s worth what it’s worth?

Any thoughts or advice would be great.

Ha! Narry a chance. Unless it’s worth silly money it’ll go somewhere very safe for the next decade or so..

just got into pokemon also recently with my son and think its a great hobbie, collecting cards and actually playing the game.

At the end of the day its a card with a picture of a dragon on it, it won’t make you rich, enjoy the game and keep the cards in case they worth anything in the future.

put it on eBay at a silly price and see what happens

You can enter the card and it will come up with every known variation of that card along with its value with respect to condition.

My Magic collection was worth around £2k in 2017 and nearly £40k in 2021.

I’ve tried playing the game. Sort of got what it was about but my god, it ain’t half complicated! Great for the boy though, he is learning a lot and there’s a whole gang of them busy trading cards in the playground (hence why I’m removing the potentially valuable ones before he swaps it for a mojo chew or somesuch!

Looked on Card Market. Found what I think is the card, but nothing about the date anomaly.

If you do have card that are valuable, getting them graded and encapsulated can be a worthwhile venture.

I’m doing this with some 80’s and 90’s comics at the moment.

We had this a few years ago, when i listed some on Ebay i had some offers, but also some “this is a fake”

but i don’t still know how it was considered ‘fake’ as such. It came from a Pokemon pack we bought, so in my mind that made it genuine… but how would people know… i don’t know, i never got an answer on that.

I ended up giving them all to a mate for his kid.

@leegee – where are you getting the comics done? I’ve thought about this for a few old Spiderman issues, but it always seemed a US comics market thing.
