Shropshire's Wandering Trig
null
This otherwise perfectly unremarkable trigpoint was built on Overley Hill, just north of The Wrekin. When the M54 was extended to form the (now-dual-carriageway) road from Wellington to Shrewsbury, they cut through Overley Hill and the trig had to go. Instead of being cast aside, it was rescued by an employee of a firm of surveyors who were involved in the road-building work, and has spent several years installed right outside their offices in Bayston Hill village near Shrewsbury; in the last couple of years they've relocated their operation to Telford, and it's now living in a shrubbery in the carpark of their new offices on a business park in Hadley. A well-travelled concrete trig pillar.

Sadly dead, probably hit by a car, but a really beautifully marked animal nonetheless and otherwise in prime condition as far as I could see

Up on the Ridgeway yesterday, looking towards Sparsholt Down. Great to be able to get out for both dog walks and rides now.

A lovely ride out in a very dry and dusty Epping Forest today:

Slightly marred by hundreds of cars/people in High Beech car park which has been re-opened. I skirted through that PDQ 🙁

Busy day on two wheels today.

A local loop early on, on't Rocket, then a nice little spin on the motorcycle in the afternoon. First time in about 2 months. Lots of bikers about.

Took the commuter bike for a spin round the lanes, ended up in Caerphilly by this pond I'd forgotten existed:

20200518-173718
how to reduce my breast size at home
Also forgot I'd modified the gearing to suit my pretty much flat commute, having a lowest gear of 38/28 hurt up pretty much every hill!

Edit: the title postimage gave that, what the actual... 🤣

Why is the priest still hanging about? Doesn't he know they've demolished his church and turned it into a shopping precinct?

Took the trail bike out to check I'd fixed the rear brake, success! It no longer pumps up when warm. Took a different route to the hills I found last week, never knew there was a Glamorgan Canal in Cardiff, right below the M4. Amazingly tranquil with a lot of birds and other wildlife milling around.

First proper Mtb ride since lockdown as have to drive (though been out on the road/turbo most days). Surrey Hills on a weekday evening in the sun, far from the maddening crowds of a weekend.

Rode along the Pilgrims Way to the memorial cross at Lenham (in Kent). I’ve been travelling past this cross for many years but never been to it, so I thought I’d have a ride out on a lovely day.

Kryton, your son looks SO happy in those shots. That kind of thing is why I started this thread.

Really windy here today so we took a v short drive to some woods. No photos of the biking, largely because I'm embarrased by the fact that my 2yo i already a better MTBer than me.

Anyway - trees:

Ha, thanks. The complexities of parenthood. Yesterday I was hiding my own sadness from him as we had to dress him down over abusing his tablet allowance (i grew up as an unhappy child, and don’t want ours to be the same) and today he says this was one of favourite rides.

I was riding behind him mostly and he was swerving around singeletrack with an audible “wheee” and “woo hoo” at pace to the point I was nervously thinking “Christ, that’s going to wash out in the dust any minute...”

Fun times.
