Just spotted this over on pinkbike.
The idea of scraping down a brand new bike makes me a bit 😯

I really enjoyed reading that, cheers!

That Scale is absolutely mint. First thing I’d do is get rid of the gears though. Then it’d be proper light.

Quite impressed with the finished bikes tbh but wow, a brave project!

About ten years ago I removed the paint from a nice carbon frame for a weighty weenie build.
It took about 250g from the weight even when clearcoated and looked awesome.

I ended up with a frame at under 900 grams

What’s good is he actually rides.

Have seen some right horrors of light bike projects…. Usually ridden by fatty IT middle management 🙂

It’s all gone a bit village people, but brave project and fine eye for detail.

He appears to have a zebra scrotum taped to the downtube.

Impressive. He’s not shy in giving it some stick too despite the weeny bits.

If I had those quads i`d wear those shorts all the time

I like it. A man whose bike weight philosophy and his shorts are straight out of the 1980’s

Yup good to see a proper light bikes actually ridden too.
As he says it’s only the pedals, bar/stem and post/saddle that limit it to 85kg. So not bad really. So you could swap it out and still have a 7kg bike for someone outside of fit racer territory.

I would liked to see a cost though.

Considering the Hopp derailleur is 700 Euro!

*awaits someone to claim that is not that light, and their trail bike, with XT and a dropper, is half a pound lighter, as per them holding it, stood on the bathroom scales, then subtracting their weight.

as per them holding it, stood on the bathroom scales, then subtracting their weight

Surely that’s how he weighed them in the first place, either that or pound shop luggage scales

    Good read that!

Looks like he gained about 1kg of arm muscle for every 100g of paint he scraped off of his frames though lol
