I just took delivery and installed a set of Geoff bars on one of my bikes and i have a question for those who also use them. Do you run your controls as in board as they will go, or on the end as you would with normal bars?

I’m just trying to decide if it’s worth buying some new grips to experiment with (current ones are sealed at the end so won’t slide further up) but thought i’d see what others are doing before loosening my wallet.

Photos are always a bonus. Thanks.

I have a set hung up in my garage. Just couldn’t get on with their position. Tried all sorts of stem and grip combos and ended up going back to conventional mtb bars. They’re a fair old weight too. Sorry I can’t give any positive feedback for you, but each to their own, you might love them.

A rubbish picture, but might help? My controls are inboard, and I stuck xxl ESI grips on. I like the bars angled down a fair way, I think around 10 degrees from horizontal. I rate them…had to learn to ride more upright than on my drop bar gravel bike, then they started making a lot more sense as didn’t have my weight on my wrists.

I understand the Jeff Jones way is choked up as far as they’ll go, and that’s how I’ve always had Jones bars set up, but whatever works for you OP – try and see what works!

Finding myself in agreement with everyone, ie:

    – Try it see what works for you
    – I’ve tried inboard, outboard
    – I’ve tried Ergon swept grips, and long foam grips
    – They are better-positioned tilted back/down quite dramatically (at least far more than my initial trials as pictured)

Sadly mine also wound up hanging on the wall, but they seem to work for others.

At the price I’d say that they make a low-risk trial for possibly some real Jeffs down the road, which was my way of thinking. I just couldn’t seem to get comfy compared to either wide risers or flat bar with bar-ends. Of the two control-positions I preferred inboard as it felt less like piloting a ship! Thought the bars could do with losing at least 10mm per side, but the long grips and inboard controls make sense on that score.

I like mine a lot. Running regular length grips with the brakes a little inboard of the grips to allow for one finger braking, just like I would with flat bars.

I’ve got the foamy ones on the lower area and road tape around the rest. I love them (although mine are actually the Jones variant) but not really for trail riding. Great for bike packing, long distance commuting, school run etc

I use these grips on my Jones Loops (along with another layer of tape)

Not really an answer to your question, but thought I’d throw it in there 🙂

^ Those are like the ones I bought. You may have to whittle the endplugs down because mine refused to go in the Geoffs

I use them for bikepacking duties with ergon grips set up the same as I would for normal hard tail duties. I like them but had to adjust angles a bit. I tilt mine down a bit at the front but personal preference length of stem etc I guess.

They’re a great price, but not a patch on the comfort offered with the spendier ESI’s.

They don’t look like theyd last long so, I put an extra layer of bar tape over them and theyre great now.

I used those Clarks Grips for years with Jones Bars. A set of 4 lasted me 8 years 🙂
