    I love the Citroen DS.

I always wanted one of these.

because in my mind it looked like this

but in reality it looked like this

Had a 155 v6 in red with some subtle mods to suspension and engine. Amazing car I’d have it back if the guy who bought it hadn’t of blown the motor.

Really, really wanted an Alfa Romeo SZ. Stupidly, I never kept an eye on secondhand prices because they were reasonable for a while. Not now of course!

Rear wheel drive, silly Alfa V6…

I LOVED those when I was a kid, they look awesome head on, lovely on a 45 like your pic, a bit weird side on and frankly just odd from the back.

I’ve just scratched the Smart itch, found a one owner low mile 450 700cc passion complete with Eibach suspension and remap, it goes like a little rocket and I can’t stop gurning like an idiot every time I get in it 😀

I’ve always been morbidly fascinated by the Mazda Roadpacer, which must have been one of the dumbest ideas ever. It was based on a Holden Primier, which was a slightly posher version of an Aussie taxicab. The top spec Aussie versions had a 5 liter V8, but Mazda fitted a 1300cc rotary engine and sold them in Japan as an executive car. I’ve always imagined driving them would be like a kid in a toy car making all the engine sounds but not actually going anywhere.

    My grandad had one of these;

It was an abosolute peice of poo, but I really wanted one.

I had one when I first passed my test.

Tail happy was not the word.

Wrote it off within 3 months.

my Nan had one of these until she was about 80 and couldn’t see over the steering wheel anymore. even in brown I thought it was cool. it was an automatic too with cat-sick yellow velour seats.

it reminded me of my Uncle’s Manta GTE – I’m not sure if that was cool or not?

    Renault Gordini.

No idea why I wanted/want one. But I do.

[edit] brakes – it was the same car just rebadged as a Cavalier Sports Hatch for the UK market and sans spoilers.

    [edit2] £10k ! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C658067 my credit card’s itching…

I have to say that lots of these submissions aren’t ‘odd’ at all. I think some people read the title as ‘car porn what I like’

Exactly – Opal Manta GTE whats odd about that? Any Audi, Renault, Citroen all common cars bar a few of the early 70’s Citroen like the SM for example. Maybe a few of the Renault V6 are rare yes not exactly odd through!!

Its a spelling error….he meant ‘old’, not ‘odd’.

I only put the Opel Manta there to counter the Brown Cavalier which I thought was pretty odd, even though they’re practically the same car.

I loved Manta’s…and had 3, all of which ended up with a big dent in one or both of the rear wings

I also loved the Ascona – even better than the Manta. I had about 3 of them

Also had a Rekord for a little while – white with the Motorsport stripes

Old Opel’s where brilliant and handled way better than the equivalent Ford’s of the day

Old cars are way better than modern shite

Really? I’ll refer you to the 1st post of the thread, which stated…

Any odd* cars you fancied in your childhood?

*Odd meaning the sort of car that would be less likely to have attracted the interest of your mates.

That pic of Rickard Rydell must be the most posted volvo ever. I’d like a late model cavalier, my dad always had cavs for company cars and I loved the last one like a brother, CDX with the V6 I think it was. And enables me to see your two wheels and raise you a John Clelland

When we were all teenagers we had a thing for small sporty Italian cars. The one I always wanted but never got (they had all rusted away before I could get my hands on one) was the Lancia HPE

I did however own a Fiat 124 sport coupe that was my first real car (til it caught fire on me!)

I also had a brief relationship with a Fulvia but I only got to drive it once under its’ own power

    A Dutton Phaeton.
I actually wanted one of these once. What was I thinking?
And then I saw one of these in the pub car park as a kid.

Good God man, get back in therapy.
