Shorter forks no way, its a northerners bike! But aren’t shorter travel forks cheaper? 😛

It’s got shorter forks – and medium length forks – and the long ones shown in his photo (that’s the beauty of Talas)! Mine’s running the same fork too, though it does spend much of its time at 120mm… 🙂

-White tyres

Can you not use a 10spd triple, and take the outer ring off?

Shouldn’t be any reason why you can’t run 2×10 but you’ll need a double specific crank if you want bigger than a 36T chainring.

I run 1×9 on a SLX triple with a 36T in the middle position and that’s the largest that will fit without fouling the chainstay (on a 2009 pre-CEN frame)

Er, yes there is. Not enough chainstay clearance.

2×9 (plus bash) was fine, but Shimano moved everything inboard for 2×10 for a XC racing setup.

On an old frame, you need to use a 3×10 crank and take the outer off, if sold on 10spd.

Surely a double crank has both rings offset from the centreline by the same amount, so the outer on a double is further out than the centre on a triple?

Take a look at Shimano’s 2×10 crank specs… don’t forget to allow for larger diam chainrings as well.

You can get doubles with 50mm chainline though (not XT), which may allow you to go up to to a 38T or 40T rather than the 36T with a triple (and 50mm chainline)

38t is as big as you’d want to go with a 2 x 10 setup on an old (pre CEN) Soul IMO. That’s what I’m running (M785 38-26 XT), it works fine but it’s pretty close!

Beautiful, OP – but shockimg timing for me, as I was just about to re-do my black Soul 2010 (mk2) in white… thinking that I was being original!

Hope you don’t mind me very possibly copying you! I do have white Fox forks to go with it though…

Any details you’d recommend that I should know before doing it? (E.g. recommended place, affixing decals etc…).
