Some how i can’t see this working by what i have seen.
Don’t eat at Mc Ds but the hoards of people inside, do not look like the type to wait to be served.

Dunno, I’ve had table service with worse food, and queued up for far better.

McD’s have been going through a bit of a shift – clientele wise. The used to be bright, red, noisy, hard surfaces, buy the food, eat it and **** off and make room for someone else.

Slowly they’ve been refocusing on business travellers (particularly in their out of town / edge of town sites) and everything is getting earthier coloured, calmer and and quieter and they’re encouraging people to stay for longer – free wifi, tellys tuned into a rolling news channel with the sound turned down and subtitles and so on.

Maybe table service is part of that refocus. Theres alway more profit in the drinks than the food so if table service just yields a second coffee purchase its probably worthwhile

Good idea, lets others see how the other 2/3rds live.

Also, encouraging to see they’re promoting even more lazy attitudes to fast food.

“Can’t be bothered to queue?, sit down we’ll walk over to you instead”

    😛

    I never knew it wasn’t table service…

I did wonder why the called it ‘Fast Food’ we left after being ignored for 20 minutes, never been back.

I don’t get the burger in a brioche bun thing, it’s just crap. I demand a proper bread roll, with a proper crust that threatens to scrap skin from the roof of my mouth, and a burger hot enough to burn it off if that fails.

Its possible I’m lower class of course but:

There’s a slightly out of town McD’s that fits this bill; i often travel early to avoid rush hour, sit in it and spend 90 mins working on the free wi fi, with coffee before progressing to the now open office. The lady manager tops up my large coffee every so often (for free), and evens asks if I’m happy with the level of the muzak. I find it quite pleasant.

You do run the risk of some builders turning up, burping and scratching they’re arse’s while you are trying to prepare this mornings territory strategy, but hey…

They’re doing the same thing. They’re also probably less embarrassed about it. 😛

That’s fairly standard in large US airports, e.g. MSP, all the tables have iPads on which you order and pay, then the food just appears….

I’ve seen the touchscreens in a few places in the SouthEast, when they get refitted they seem to be switching to a Argos style ‘collection point B’ job to get the waiting masses away from the tills. Even got the screen on wall to tell you how long your order will be.

why not just let people order off their own phone on the store wifi? You could input the number (or scan a QR code) of your table and then they bring it over to you.

I wish they did burgers like the photo above. The bun and salad don’t look like a steam roller has gone over them. The basket and board would get pinched though.

Can we have table service in pubs please? Bars on the continent are so much more civilised.

Oh I forgot, we specialise in “vertical drinking establishments”.

The one up the road from me has been doing this for months, works pretty well.
Order on the touchscreens, pick the zone your seated in at the end of your order then pay,it spits out a numbered receipt and in a few minutes its delivered.

Saves the scrum of standing round at the counter.
Our local also has table mounted Samsung tablets so you check the news ,play games, etc.
Much better set up than KFC or Burgerking.

Not sure why people like table service in bars ? Walk in find a table if you can, try and attract attention of waiter/waitress, wait for drink to arrive. You want to go, attract serving person ask for bill wait for that, wait for change ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ?ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZXXZZZZZZZZZZZ.

    People sit inside?
In the proper (crap end of town) McD’s most people just drive through and then sit in the car park eating it – now thats proper service 😉

From what I understand there was a change at the top and a lot of this stuff got tried out down here in Oz and the rebranding is massive, it’s a big shift away from the cheap/fast and it seems to be working for them. As a brand transformation it’s a great example. Still wouldn’t eat there – who wants a burger without a decent pint.

Yup, we have that here in Australia, i’ve used it once.

Build your own burger at the touch screen, take a buzzer and wait for food to arrive.

Its still crappy McDonnalds but nice to make your own crappy burger

Or you sit down use the touch screen to order drinks and food that is then delivered or pour your own from the self service taps when done pay at your table. Beats standing at a crowded bar trying to get served while people nudge and push their way past.

BIG FAN of table service in bars. Still better than trying to get served at a crowded bar* (why do British people queue everywhere, except the one place where they bloody well should ??).

The trick with it taxi25 is to have the right(ish) money and keep track of the bill. Order, get drinks and either pay as they arrive or as you leave.

*not easy when you are under 5ft.

I’ve eaten in the US in places where they have a touchscreen embedded in every table. You can place your order at your leisure, exactly what you want with no risk of them cocking it up, pay for it even, and wait for it to arrive. It’s a brilliant system.

They also used it for games and suchlike, they’d have trivia questions on the big screens and you could play along, and it’d flash up which tables were winning like a rolling non-intrusive pub quiz. Pretty cool.

There’s been at least one McD’s with table service for donkey’s years – the one in the financial district in Manhatten – has a grand piano/pianist too. 🙂

It’s gonna be ace when automation means we all get to not work innit?

Table service in bars is great when there’s good service, i.e. north America – not convinced it would work that well here most of the time.

I had a quick squint at the online drinks menu. They don’t exactly cater for the real ale drinker do they?

I just think the waitress service system in say France or Germany is far better than queuing at the bar.

I’m not a real ale drinker, so wouldn’t know! Normally have a bottle of wine or a Peroni.

They do (selective) table service in my local (for regulars only). it quickly becomes a tyranny. As you get towards the end of your pint, another fresh one magically appears in its place. Whether you asked for it or not. Like some kind of alcoholic witchcraft.

Its like the Hotel California lyric

You can check out any time you like. But you can never leave!

We had that in a bar in the middle or Turkey once.

Every time I asked for the bill “hesap Lütfen”, they delivered two new beers which shouldn’t sound anything like that (“iki bira”).
