I recently bought a couple of shimano IS to post mount adaptors.  One came with drilled bolts and lockwire, the other with these funny little clips that go on the bolt heads to stop them unwinding.

The bolts have loctite on them but because one of the adapters is on a bike with a rohloff and speedbone I have had to use longer bolts

I’ve never even bothered with loctite unless its already on the bolts I am using.  Never had one of these bolts come undone.  Even if it did come loose its got to back off a long way before the brake falls off and you would soon notice a clunk as the caliper moved under braking

Does anyone bother with these clips or lockwire?  anyone had a bolt come undone?

I always use some Loctite not to stop the bolts undoing but instead of grease to stop things siezing up. Never used the clips or the lock wire.

Yer no harm using the clips and have used the lock wire on two bikes, but only really as like the look of some nice twisted lock wire.

bit on non shimano, just like most some threadlock.

I’ve never figured out why they only come with one of the clips, not two. And which bolt it’s supposed to go on??

Never bothered with clips or wires.

Little dab of loctite probably not a bad idea but having said that I think that’d only account for about half my current bolts in brakes.

I always seemed to lose the clips not sure if they ping off in the shed or on the trail or what.

Have once had a bolt come undone, front brake on an early post mount Lyric. In the trees just before the gate at the bottom of Coire Lair; glad it didn’t happen a few minutes earlier! I’ve never used wires or extra clips.
That’s one occurrence, on one bike, having ridden disc braked bikes since my late 1990’s Proflex with Hope Minis, sat on a custom made rear mount adapter.
    That wasn’t yesterday..

Never used threadlock or wire or anything, and been using discs since the mid 90’s

Of course now, this thread has left me feeling vulnerable, and I’ll be forced to go out, buy some threadlock and use it religiously 🙁

I don’t use locking wire in brake bolts, but locking wire players are immense amounts of fun.

I threadlock brakes and mudguard bolts as I don’t want either falling off mid ride….

I use Loctite but it’s more to provide friction so the bolts can’t spin freely if they were to be loose.

Loctite +1, once had a brake rotor work it’s way loose and trash the threads. Get the little prit-stick ones and it takes barely a second to wipe the bolt across the top of it before putting it in so now I do the rotor, caliper, stem, and saddle. Currently regretting not doing the DUB extractor cap.

Or use Centrelock where the disc can’t come off unless you remove the wheel….

Nope, in fact I do the opposite – copper grease. I am still alive.
