I’m wondering just how many modern houses built to current standards, will still be standing in 350 years time.

I live in a solid old stone building right on the North Sea coast. The winter we have had has been brutal for wind driven rain and sea spray – the walls have had a good soaking. Couple of weeks of fine weather has seen it dry out nicely.

Down the coast there is a brand new, multi million, swank pad. It was built with a membrane behind the facade, which is slate hanging off a metal frame. They have had to remove half the facade and rebuild it – guess they didn’t account for water being blown upwards!

    Mine’s approaching it’s 300th birthday. It’s still fine … Ish.
