  • How do you follow a GPX file in Viewranger?

    I’ve created a GPX file.

    I’d like to follow it.

    I’ve installed Viewranger.

How do I tell Viewranger that this is what I want?

I can’t seem to find any menu options to do something that ought to be really straightforward.

I’ve also tried shouting at it and throwing the phone across the room, but that didn’t work either.

    Thanks.

Have you got the GPX track into viewranger? I use Dropbox to upload them.

Once you have the track loaded,Go into advanced options. Create route from track. Select route and follow.

    Right, got it.

    Go to the map.

    Look at the route.

Try to remember where you’re going to be going. Mnemonics help.

    Pretty obvious really.

I don’t have an advanced options.

    I can go into “import/export”.

    Then do “Import externally”

I import and it says “Import complete” and I hit “OK”.

    Now what?

You can set audible alerts. Mine pings when I’m reach a waypoint and beeps at me if I get more than 50m off the route.

In the ‘my viewranger’ tab, select the track you want, scroll down through the details to options, advanced options.

So, you can’t do it using the Android app, that’s why it doesn’t work.

You have to upload the route to the VR website, and _then_ it works. Frustrationtastic.

Are you related to my mother in law?

Quite probably. Aren’t we all related one way or another?

    Thanks anyway 🙂

First question; can you see the route on the map?

If yes, then click on the route anywhere. A pop up asks what you wish to choose. Select yes, then in the icon bar at the top, select ‘follow route’.
