After spending most of Thursday night riding around with my brakes on, decided to bring forward the overhaul I was putting off until ‘summer’ and get things underway this afternoon.

Anyway, I’m struggling to remove the inbound piston (opposite side to the bore cap), just can’t get it to move out far enough to get a grip on it.

Left it soaking in Plusgas for the moment, aside from the track pump method which I’ll try later, any other tips to get the sod out?

Have spares to put in there so not shy about using destructive means to remove it.

Put the system back together, hold in the piston that moves and pump the lever to get the stuck piston moving

Cheers TJ, have tried that but can’t get it moving. Will give it another go tomorrow after it’s had a good soak.

Any other tips in case the above doesn’t work?

Idea – remove the outbound piston and bore cap, screw into the stuck piston and pull it out that way perhaps?

Its a bit of a drag but disassemble the caliper as far as you can, soak the remainder in some petrol or meths.
Rebuild and do what tandemjeremy said.
then take apart again and replace seals and the like.
Also, try and not move the bottle of brake fluid about too much. better it settles for a few days.

Mine was doing the same, so i bled it first then held in the good piston to pump out the bad piston … took a few goes of pushing the good piston back in as the bad one was just not moving, ,,eventually after soaking it in silicone spray to protect the seals it started getting loose
Cleaned of the piston with the rough side of a kitchen sponge thing to take the glaze off it and to make it shiny again, put piston back in
Bled the system again, got the pressure right, put the pads in and working great
Pretty much what the other guys are saying

Cool, will try again after it’s had a soak in the Plusgas.

If that fails I’ll strip it down and drop it in meths for a day or two.

I have new pistons and seals to go in so not worried about messing the old ones up if it means I can get them out.

    Cheers 🙂

    Disco!

Took a fair bit of pumping with the lever, but got moving eventually.

    Cheers 🙂
