Hope District rack mounting; anyone managed it?

The rack and bag combo that I bought for the commute completely obscures the seatpost and Hope don’t make an alternative mount. Has anyone managed to figure out a neat solution to this?

Topeak MTX rack & bag on a Cannondale Synapse. Not my setup, but like this:

Could you work something out with the existing light mount? Drill to take the bolts from the District mount, then place half a seat tube piece and part of a shim between the mount and the clamp?

from the thread title I thought this was going to be about reluctant doggers in the Peak. Is slightly disappoint.

Same problem, my solution is I’m planning to move to panniers for winter 🙂
I did see some photos of I think a topeak adaptor that clamped to a rack and gives you a cylindrical device to mount lights to. A bit like their handlebar extender.
SJS have a few adapters, this looks like the sort of thing http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/madison-universal-light-mounting-kit-for-madison-pannier-racks-prod26342/ but no mention of diameter.

I have drilled the holes to take the clamp…forgetting that it’s the plastic mount that activates the spring mechanism that holds the light in place! I did wonder about cutting the plastic mount but I’m not sure how I’d keep it in place and have the confidence that it would stay in place during use.

I don;t think that option is really suitable for the MTX due to the way the bag is designed to slide on & off the rack.

TBH, I was hoping for something a bit less Heath Robinson than a bodged option (I know some of you love a bodge!). I’m a bit disapointed that no one on STW has bothered to have a bespoke CNC mount made…

Hmmm, the Hope handlebar mount looks like it may offer an easier/neater bodge.

The bayonet part of the mount appears to be an all-in-one solution (so no separate plastic ‘C clamp’ required) and it’s even removable from the main clamp.

I just need a way of reducing the main clamp diameter to 8-10mm, or, find a different clamp for the rack that’ll take bayonet fitting.

Yeah but the district is 80 lumens of driver annoying brightness. 🙂

And auto on/off depending on brightness and movement, so no need to switch off.

One thing tho, those topeak racks dont have a proper light mount, but a nonstandard bracket and plastic adaptor for the light i suggested, so maybe not as ideal as first thought.

The District is 80 lumens of daylight riding attention grabbing goodness!

I don’t use it on full power when it’s dark.

I tend to use mine on the strobe/triple pulse setting.
Not all topeak racks are the same either, I tried the plastc adaptor from my mtx beam rack and the holes didn’t line up on my commuters topeak rack.

If you are using the front light bayonet mount the helmet mount would be a better starting point than the handlebar one. It gives you a nice flat piece of plastic to either glue or screw to.

A visit to a bike shop should net you an offcut of 31.8mm steerer tube (possibly in a choice of colours if you’re lucky), and a couple of bottle cage/mudguard mounting spacers. Drill and tap the steerer to match the rack’s light mount, file the spacers to match the steerer’s profile, bolt them together using a spot of loctite,and use the 31.6mm adapter (0.2mm difference should hopefully be within it’s capability) that came with the light.
