  • Hope adjustable seatpost?

    Hi,

Seems that there are quite a lot of manufacturers dabbling with adjustable seatposts (KS, Fox, RS, Xfusion, Thomson, Crank Bros, Specialised).

Does anyone think Hope will join that list too?

Is this the same Hope that were promising a cassette/freehub in one about 5 years ago?

Their 😉 fixed seatpost isn’t called ‘Eternity’ for nothing.

Why does it take them so long to develop a product?

at a guess, its not a priority.

I think Rockshox being a competitor must have been the biggest factor.

I bet it will have been discussed at some point by Hope. I think it would be an interesting product for them, considering they’ve got a lot of experience in in other, relatively similar areas (finishing kit, brakes, manufacturing).

We’ll see their derailleur and shifters before we see their droppy post.

Why does it take them so long to develop a product?

They are not actually that big of a company, only 100 employees. along side the making 50,000 hubs a year and building 600 wheels a week not to mention all their other product lines doesn’t leave a lot of spare time for design R&D and manufacture of new stuff.

I’d rather they make a product that works than rush new stuff out that doesn’t. The cassette has been put on the back burner for a while I believe after requiring a redesign from the original idea that whilst functional, wasn’t strong enough whilst testing.

yeah can’t see that being a good move for hope at all. the way they deal with after-sales (good btw, direct with consumer) would cause them a big headache for what would be an expensive product, they’re better putting their energy into tweaking their successful wheels etc to keep hold of or further solidify that market, than trying to compete with the big guys like SRAM/Fox on dropper posts where they probably would end up with a £400 post anyway. imho.

Look at what Thomson have had to do. They’ve basically had to buy in all the technology to make a “moving” product. I know Hope already do hydraulic parts but there is so much other technology needed for an adjustable seatpost so I don’t see where they would make a margin – unless of course they copied something simple like the Gravity Dropper.

TBH I would have expected Pace to produce one before Hope.

At least they have (or had) the Hydro/air suspension knowledge.

yep, Hope’s best products are the simple ones, wheels (the hub machined from one piece, couple of bearings, negotiated good deal on stan’s rims), their stems, seatcollars etc. their brakes are not competitive (sorry fans, you bought them for the look/brand). i also get impression their dev is more by trial and error than CAD, this doesn’t work well for a seatpost in the current market, may have done 5 years ago when just GD + Joplin!

I asked Hope this about a year ago and effectively got a nod and a wink as if it was something they were working on.

Of course how or if it’ll ever see the light of day is another matter.

use of existing Hope designs – hydraulically operated seat clamp, allowing an Eeternity post to slide down. And a hite-rite to get it back up 🙂

Surely the guys at Hope are too busy supervising the Elves mining Pennine Mithril?

I expected USE to have one out by now.
