cant get gpx. files to download onto my satmap 10. can anyone help? i think the problem might be my computer not recognising the gpx. files? advice gratefully received
There is a programme for putting it onto the satmap 10
yep, done that thanks but it is when i go to open the gpx. file. my computer asks me to select a programme to open it with and then i cant do it because there is no compatible programme
You can't open the Gpx file straight from the computer, you have to upload it to their browser based software to view it.
ok cheers, so i open satsync, sorry for being daft but how do i upload it to their browser?
thanks again
As above you need Satmap Satsync to load and unload gpx files. It converts them to .map files when it loads them onto the Satmap device.
If you want to view gpx files on your computer that you recorded on the Satmap then you can download them and then use something like www.walkhighlands.co.uk to view them on an OS map.
Edit - what exactly are you wanting to do?
You log onto http://www.satmap-xpedition.com/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fPlanner%2f and then upload the file.
i want to download routes from magazines\bikely.com etc and put them onto the satmap so i can follow them.
To put it on the gps unit
1)So you download the .gpx file
2)Plug Gps into pc
3)Open satsync and tranfer the file over
ok, will give it a try later. cheers
Mac or PC? I gave up trying to run Satmap with a Mac (though so far its not much better with a Garmin!)
You can load them into Google Earth easily enough for viewing.
download and install google earth, and then go to File -> Open
then change the file type from the default of Google Earth (bottom right of dialog) to GPS, which will show the gpx files in the folder you browse to, and then just select the gpx file.
It will put it in your Temporary Places but you can create addition folders and drag the routes into them.
Satsync to transfer them to and from the Satmap.
Satmap can work with kml files as well, which are google earths native format I think.
lots to experiment with - if you upload all you routes and downloaded routes you can use google earth to browse them all - you can set properties on the routes so they are all in different colors and thicknesses.
Don't select open the file, but select save instead, save to Documents or somewhere else on the PC. Open SatSync with the Active 10 connected. Select Download on SatSync and you then select your saved file. It should then bring it across automatically.
